Default PPI 356cs

I saw a reference to this speaker being available at Sonic Electronix at the close out price of $140. Of course it was out of stock. Then I got a note from Sonic Electronix that it was back in stock. Ordered them and get them in..... WOW!

These are great speakers. The mids are smooth and have some punch, the highs are fantastic.

I auditioned them against a set of Focal Access A1 in my S2000.

Both speakers had nice bass punch understanding they are 6 1.2. Focal had the edge here by a hair, could be because the Focals are a larger speaker.

The biggest difference was in the highs.

Focal to me, nice sound, very well tuned, but in comparison to the 356cs, they were a little harsh.

The 356cs, are so smooth. If I wasn't able to do a AB comparison I would never have guessed.

Now guess which set got sent back to Crutchfield.

Philbert, that was one great recommendation.....

Agreed! After applying sound deadener to the doors and door panels last weekend, the bass response is just incredible. Another thumbs up to Philbert for the excellent recommendation.

Chris, where did you end up putting the massive crossovers? How much power are you running your setup on?

I removed the plastic box in the doors and put the crossovers there. I have 120 per channel from a Kenwood XR-4 amp.

I am toying with the idea of a second set in the back. But the magnets are so big I want to come up with something that doesn't require cutting, so I may see if I can put something together with spacers.

Whoa, that's a lot of power. Not sure how a second set would fit in the back, but I'd be interested in seeing it if it could be done!

Me too, try to figure out how without cutting any metal. At the sonic electronic price, I can buy two sets for the same price as the focals I bought from Crutchfield.

Yup, they fit in the stock baskets(with the backs cut out) just fine. The tweeters are quite large and are a tight fit in the factory tweeter locations...thinking about relocating them for better staging.

Man, this is a GREAT price on a nice set of comps. I almost bought this set, but I can't turn away from the Hertz HSK 165's I sampled last week. They sounded way too nice.

Hertz are great speakers. I wasn't planning on changing out my Kenwood components until I heard about the price these PPI (ADS) speakers, then when it was time to order it was out of stock.

Found a set of Focal Access at Crutchfield outlet and bought them, then got a note from Sonic that the PPI's were back in stock, so I wound up ordering both.

Gave me a chance to compare. I like my choice and it is very affordable. Wondering if I should get another set as a spare since these are discontinued.
