Default Water to Engine Oil Cooler - KW Owners Chime In

I have been thinking of adding an oil to water oil cooler to help keep the oil temps in check.

For those using an Lanminova oil cooler on the KW which model are you using? Are you using antifreeze or a standalone cooler? I would like to run a cooler inline with the upper hose but I am not sure there will be enough room.

Last but not least what is the best source for the Laminova coolers in the States or what other manufacturers have a similar product?

Okay so unless anything changes I will probably run the A-43-180P (SA00159) which is the Laminova C43 Series 182mm long with dual 10AN inlets and 35mm water inlet/outlet. Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated.

The other option is a radiator with an integral oil cooler, just like car with an automatic transmission would have integrated in. However the only one I could find was made by PWR and had a price tag of $950-$1000 to my door and getting that info was a PIA so I was really hesitant even if the price was good.

Before you tell me that a front mount is better, there are several issues I have with a front mount in my situation (Not Endurance racing). One where to get good air flow, two how to run the thermostat, three how easy is it to integrate into the oil relocation kit, four what about heavy traffic with no air flow and finally what is the cost.

I've been looking at going this route as well. I was looking at their 330mm a while ago, and I'm pretty sure that it would fit where the upper radiator hose would go. I am still not sure if I'm going to run air-to-air intercooling, but if I do decide to, I would rather not have to deal with trying to stuff an oil-cooler down by my radiator and intercooler. So, Laminova is the direction I'm taking for cooling my oil, also.

I don't remember where I found it, but there is a rating chart (example: 310mm = 16-18 row equivalent) online that could help you find out exactly which one you want. I personally want to go with the largest cooling area I can fit inline with my radiator.

Here is another link that sells them in the US.

If you come up with any more info on this, please post it up.

Cheers,
Cliff

PM S1997 he's putting a larger one on his car as I speak. The next route is a larger radiator, but this requires re-welding where the foot pegs go. I want to go this route too just trying to get funds together to do the mods. I was also considering cutting an air duct into the bottom of my splitter and the custom fabricating a shroud to channel the air up inbetween the stackup. I don't however want to compromise downforce.

This is also something I have wanted to do for some time now. The hardest part is to get the correct size heat exchanger. Ideally you want your oil temps in the 220-250F range so it can't be too large and, at the same time, it can't be too small.

I thought about the 310mm unit but it is a foot long and I was worried I would have a hard time fitting in there.

(Why did I keep thinking "Thats what she said" the entire time I was typing this)

See this thread:

It works nicely but under the hood temps are very high.

Is this a known issue that oil or water temps are running high on street use of the high boost kit?

I mounted my oil cooler underneath my crossmember. It cut down on radiant heat coming from the cooler, and places it nearer to airflow under the car. I have found doing this will reduce underhood temps.

I also mounted a temp sensor on the oil line coming out of the sandwhich block above the s/c. I will monitor oil temps now.

no, strictly track use.

Lets just say I've done some hard driving at one point in my life and oil temps were never dangerously high. You'll only see 260+ oil temps on the track, otherwise there is an issue with your system.
