Default [AUS] Oil Changes at Honda Dealerships

Where does everybody from Austin get their oil change at?

Or to be more specific, which Honda dealership parts/service is best around Austin? Does anybody here work at one?

Why not do it yourself? Its a great reason to get acquainted with your car. =)

I just have my mechanic do mine, also does all my maintenance as well in terms of fluid changes.

I am not sure which dealership I would recommend for service, really depends on where you live. If south, howdy honda might be worth a try, central, Honda First Texas and north Honda Round Rock. I know Howdy has an express lube. In terms of an oil change, it is such a standard procedure any of them should work out fine (taking into consideration that you are used to using the dealer for maintenance).

I personally do not see any advantage to using the dealer unless you have some type of special relationship with them.

just my 2 cents....

I would personally not recommend Howdy Honda. They have unfriendly service and neglected to help me w/ my misfiring issue I had w/ my car (My car was out of warranty for only 30 days) and I mean if they had just came out and listened to my motor I would've been fine, but the guy just went back inside. Not to mention when I went there a few weeks before to get fluid for my tranny and diff, one of the techs there had NO IDEA what I was talking about and even proceeded to hand me the wrong diff fluid, until his manager came out and helped me get the correct one. But seriously if there isn't a manager title somewhere in their name tag they are mostly just tools there. Hell if you don't have a garage to change your oil in I'll be more than happy to lend you a space and help you out. But personally I would try and avoid Howdy Honda and would even make the drive to one of the other Honda dealers even though Howdy Honda is 5 mins away from my house.

Thanks for the good info. And yeah, I've been very aquainted with my car this past weekend. I took some time off work to install a new top, new wheels, injectors, and so forth. I went down to Houston to do it b/c I have all my tools there. I didn't realize I needed an oil change until I checked it when I got back to Austin last night.

The reason I'm not doing myself is because I don't have time to. I'm living in Austin for an summer internship, and I work most of the week (i work overtime). It just seems more reasonable to take it to a dealership for now.

Also... you should make sure that you use the right oil filter. Honda 15400-PCX-004. It makes a difference because the S2K's engine is a high-compression engine. This filter is specific for the S2K. It has more pleats inside and more intake holes.

I buy these filters and give them to the oil change person.

I don't go to First Texas Honda anymore. They had the right filter and did the job right. But, their "policy" is to drive every car after to service to make sure it's okay. This was according to the service manager that I had. I was watching from the customer waiting area, and some dude took off in my car. Who knows what happened after he disappeared from sight!

I buy, for several years now, the above listed filter and take it to my oil change place. I take my car for other fluid changes to David McDavid Acura. Although I don't let them do the oil, my BF took my car there and handed them my oil filter, and the tech handed it back and said they had oil filters. He put in an Integra oil filter. This is where I know the S2K filter is the right one- the Integra filter made the center tunnel hot! They meant to save us money, but no, it needs the S2K filter.

In any case, I do go to McDavid Acura for all the other fluid changes. They also replaced the clutch. I guess no place will be perfect, but they don't seem to mind me hovering over them. I guess I would let them do the oil change for me, and just make sure they use my oil filter, but now I use Mobil One Synthetic and they use another brand of oil.

I did my inspection there recently, and the tech was familiar with the S2K and treated it with care.

LOL... The S2000 uses the higher volume filter because it is high-revving, not high-compression. The higher RPM means more oil flow from the oil pump when at those higher RPMs. The smaller filter doesn't allow as much volume through it over a given time.

As for the center tunnel getting hot -- that's going to happen no matter what. The exhaust and transmission are down there -- things are going to get hot. The oil filter has nothing to do with that.

Personally, I still use the *old* Honda filters that they used to put on all cars years ago before they went to the tiny filters on most everything. I bought a case of them a few years back and slowly drifted away from daily driving the Hondas as I added Toyotas to my 'fleet' at home. Consequently, I still have quite a few left that I've been slowly using up. I've had no issues from the old style filters on S2000s.

I recently read that the S2000's should use the Honda-specific filter because it does not create a vacuum when the engine is in VTEC. I picked a couple up from http://www.handa-accessories.com/ last week; same model number that Grasshopper123 mentioned.
