Question Removal of the CD inlet of the stereo flappy thing

Hi All,

I have just fitted an IDA-X305 Alpine stereo unit using the Modifry PnP wired harness which made life really simple. Well recommended even though a tad expensive. The housing for the Alpine stereo was a bit tight to fit and as a result the stereo flap on the s2000 always presses against the button of the Alpine when trying to either open or close the flap. This causes the music to shuffle and change track....

I was wondering if the cd-insert holder on the inside of the flap (I think that is what it is) can be removed? has anyone done this? This would certainly resolve the issue I'm currently having by freeing up some needed space.

Has anyone fitted an IDA-X305 Alpine with success? Have I done something wrong? Any tricks or tips?

One thing I did notice was the stereo unit didn't go all the way in and where the brackets get screwed into the dash must have been a few millimeters gap on each bracket. I did try to get it flush against the dash, but it wasn't having any of it.

Anyway, any advice would be most welcome.

Cheers.

It will JUST fit.

It's a bugger with all the wires behind it, it is probably those stopping it.

I also bent the brackets out a bit where they screw in.

You could cut the excess plastic off from the inside of the door. I wouldn't do this myself as I would screw it up!!

I just finished installing a 9887 in mine with Bluetooth adapter and incartec adapater and it went in fine although there was a lot of wiring to tuck away and unless you get the line of the wires just right, the unit won't go far enough back into the dash. I ended up pushing wiring to the left flush with the top of the transmission tunnel and the metal voltage box of the alpine unit to the right of the tunnel - bit of wiggling and it sat nice and flush.

Easiest way I found in the end was to line all the wires up without the stereo in the way and only when you have all the rest of it tidy do you try and fit the stereo.

I've got an XDA-X100 in mine and I assume you mean the big jog wheel in the middle is getting pressed? Mine fits in, as AE says, JUST. Probably best of removing and refitting and seeing if you can slot it in that extra couple of mm's.

Hi.

Like you, when I had finished fitting my Alpine Unit, I found I could change channel/mode by closing the flap - very annoying. I could see that a holder type piece of plastic on the inside of the flap was impacting on this particular radio knob and was the cause. I tried to move the radio further in without joy. I therefore took the flap off and used a slitting disc in a dremel to cut off enough of the offending piece of plastic to clear the knob. I cleaned up the L shaped cut with a small file, some wet & dry and then silicone polish.
As long as you take it easy and are careful with the dremel it took a couple of minutes for the cut and an equal time for the cleaning up. Done correctly you can hardly see that the flap has been cut, and anyway, once ive selected the music the flap is closed

305 fits fine without fouling the door.

Start again with the install

There may be a bolt/screw on the back to adjust the depth of the headunit. Altering this may allow the HU to fit further inside.

Removing the panels either side of the stereo will aide you to route the wiring too.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback on this...

It's all very much appreciated... Fingers crossed, I'll get some free time this Sunday to take the unit fully out and redo the installation. I'll report back once done...

As long as I know it can be done then I'll try to do a proper job on it.
Cheers.

Also, did you keep the hex stubb at the back of the unit?

Japester: Yes it is the "big jog wheel in the middle" getting pressed. Apart from that all is good!

I haven't bothered to use that hex stubb in any car i've owned since a 1990 Metro - as the radio is bolted in on brackets in the s2000, it really is surplus to requirements and could even be what's stopping you getting the unit that last couple of mm in

I have an X305 in mine and it doesn't foul the door however when you press to open the door it does press the jog dial. Key to avoiding this happening is pressing the door on the (top) left which avoids the jog dial from being pressed. Simple!
