Talking DIY VIP lights

hey guys i was bored today and decided to go ahead and install the "vip handle lights" (this idea was not mine i took it from TRD Cellica) here is his thread https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=725596&st=0
So i took a bunch of pictures and decided to do a diy here it is....

started off by pulling off ther weather strip directly above the top light (dome light)

placed in the wire for the lights i used speaker wire because im lazy and it was laying around

gotta look out for the metal supports on each side of the windshield in the corners there is a plastic piece that pops in to help hold on the weather stripping
the wires above the dome light block the weatherstrip from snapping back on so i had to trim a bit to get it around the metal to the light.

snip snip there is metal in there so be careful not to cut yourself

ran the wire down to the floor and popped off the plastic kick panel
(yes that is a sub in my passenger floor, no no one kicks it, no it doesnt take up more than 1'' of extra room compared to the stock floor)

so after that i removed the awesome piece of sponge insulation honda put in our car, along with the door pannel(3 screws), and the speaker to get in there a bit easier (the entire housing not just the speaker itself(4 screws))

i used the old wire hanger to fish through and pull the speaker wire through the factory holes it was fairly easy acyually

ps put ur windows up it helps alot

this is a shot of inside the door just follow those wires using the clothes hanger

right through to the other side

then i pulled off the plastic on the back side of the door to access the wiring with more ease.

look out for that crap they use to seal the door its nasty and sticks to everyhting

door handle before

door handle after

i fished the wires through the holes and used these clips to attach them incase one burns out it will be easier to replace

i used tiewraps to attach them out of the way of the windows
after that was all hooked up i wired it into the dome light the plastic piece pops off with a small flat head screwdriver

oh and i changed out interior lights to this red led looks good on the red/black leather(like the m3 lights)
to remove the whole lighting assembly you need a phillips screwdiver there is 2 screws on the sides of the lights

then here is the final result

hard to see because of the camera flash but they look good imo
what you guys think

If I were to mod a handle it would be the inside door handle. Passengers always have a hard time finding it.

Yeah I have been thinking of doing the inside door handles also. Would be nice to wire them up to go on when the e brake is engaged or something. Is there any way to wire them that way?

Yeah that would work out great. WOuld be annoying to have it always be on or have a switch to turn it on. If the e brake did it, it would seem oem like and be very useful.

something to check though would the e-breake switch still have power when the car is off? good way to kill the battery lol i learned from where i wired the vip lights that the lines above the switch always have power unless the entire light assembly is switched to the off position so i had to re-wire them directly ontop of the clips itself works now lol

Hmm not sure about that. I would think they would go off since the e brake light is not on constantly. Only goes on when the key is in the ignition. Hopefully someone with wiring experience can chime in.
