Rosso,

It's just unbelievable, isn't it? Earnhardt is NASCAR! And this comes on the first race of the year after losing two at NIS last year!

Terrible news!

Just as when Ayrton Senna (my idol) was killed, Dale E. is irreplaceable. My prayers are with his family, friends and fans.......

Yea my wife just told me. I saw the wreck. Didn't seem that bad. My prayers to his family. What a great loss to Nascar.
I love watching Nascar racing. It just recently came back to the prime time spotlight. What a shame for Daytona to end this way.

Man, what a tragedy...Did anyone here goto Daytona this weekend? My buddy will get back tomorrow from Daytona. He will certainly fill me in with all the details. What a loss to NASCAR...

I've been watching Fox Sports with Derricke Cope. He was talking about the difference in Earnhart's impact and the earlier crash. Honestly, I couldn't see the difference. Look at this picture from USA Today which clearly shows the full face helmet of Schrader.

Here's a close-up of Earnhart's open face helmet.

I've watched replay after replay including the in car camera from Earhnart's car. Nothing even impacts the driver's side of his car. I can't help but wonder if the fatal injury was when his head/face impacted the inside of the car.

Aren't the similarities to Senna's death spooky?

Earnhardt's injuries have been described as a basillar skull fracture. That's a result of trauma to the skull where it meets the neck, or the lower portion of the back of the skull. He is said to have been killed instantly. I'm not sure the full-face helment would have helped here, however. God bless Mr. Earnhardt and his family.

Just like when Senna was killed, the sport will be forever changed. I watch F1 but not the same way I did when Ayrton was alive......
