Super Lap Battle 09: Evasive Motorsports
Another year has gone by and it was time for the Super Lap Battle at the now famous Buttonwillow CW13 in Bakersfield, CA.

Speedhunters.com Event Coverage
Evasive Motorsports was back again this year with the Voltex Aero equipped Evo and the Evasive S2000 equipped with the world wide debut of the Voltex S2000 kit.

Voltex is a private company started in 2003 is mostly known by their work on the Cyber Evo.
Earlier this year, Cyber Evo and HKS Evo (Current Buttonwillow Record Holder) went head to head at Fuji Speedway and lost by only 0.5 seconds.

Nakajima, the owner of Voltex Suzuka worked for CROSBY GRP UK, a composite manufacture for F1 and WRC. He has also worked for various racing team, developing composite body parts for F-3 and Formula Nipppon race cars. In addition to the motorsport background, Voltex works closely with a local university to work with students in collecting drag and downforce data on a full scale wind tunnel.

Type 1 Wing Analysis
The S2000 kit was developed based on Voltex's experience in motorsport and is derived from wind tunnel testing various cars like from the Cyber Evo and the ASM S2000. The objective was to create a lightweight kit that balances out the Front to Rear balance while keeping the drag down.
The kit consist of 3 piece front bumper, side skirt and rear diffusor.
Details info on the kit: Evasive Blog.

Evasive S2000 SLB 09 Spec:
Motor:
The motor remained similar to last year except for the Toda headers. This means that the motor itself was all stock and never opened. (When Honda puts the red valve cover on a motor, they are not messing around...) We did have plans to work with D-Craft to adapt the i-VTEC into the motor but ran out of time. To match the Toda header, the exhaust was also reworked and hand crafted by Ken @ Evasive which uses different diameters tubing to increase the flow rate.
Aero Balance:

The new Voltex system really shines on a course where there are mid to high speed corners. We were able to increase our top speed by being able to come out of corners faster. Since our power stayed pretty much the same, we were happy to the see how little drag penalty the system created. The car feels more stable under all conditions and allows the driver to keep a tighter line if necessary. The slide is also much easier to detect and correct with the Voltex Kit. Overall, the data logger shows 3 to 6 mph increase in most corners. Riverside, the fastest corner take flat out in 5th gear showed an increase of 6 mph over the entire section of corner.
Mechanical Grip:

For 2009, we ran the Evasive Spec. Tein SRC dampers on stock arms, including the rear toe-control arm. Working closely with Tein, we were able develop and refine feel of the Evasive Spec. Tein SRC dampers to better match some of the rougher track we have in the states.

We bench marked the following products on a typical track S2000 with non-staggered wheels/tires and a wing.
Moton CS
JRZ CS
HKS Hypermax 3 Sport
KW V3, V3CS
Bilestine Motosport Custom
H&R

In addition to the feedback from the track, we provided Tein with videos of suspension movements and tire temperature data from from various street tires (RE01R, R1R, Neova, AD08, Star Specs) to race tires like (NT01) slicks (Hankook). (We recommend using higher spring rate on full slicks.) The Evasive SRC is surprisingly very comfortable and compliant on the street despite what people can imagine running a spring rate of 16kg/mm. (I think those with JRZ, Motons can relate to this.) The suspension is capable of making quick direction changes and is able to take medium curbs without upsetting the balance of the car. I feel that the valving setup is pretty good as we make only 1 to 2 clicks to flavor the handling of the car for most tracks. My impression is that there is no such thing as a perfect dampers (except for 3 way JRZ, Motons) but the Evasive Spec. does a good job in relation to the price and adapts well to a car that will continuously evolve.
Tires:

New for this year is the Yokohama AD08s street tire. Our fastest lap came out of the 3rd lap and felt very predictable and easy to drive. We noticed that the tire temperatures and wear patters were more even with the Voltex kit. It definitely shows that the overall aero and mechanical package was working really well with the tires.
Well.. thats my review. I am biased since I drove the car but the results really shows what a street S2000 on stock motor can run on the track.
We were able to set a record with a lap time of 1:56.762:
Fastest NA in Street Class
Fastest RWD Street Class
and
Overall Street Class Win for 2009. (Nils in the Evo9 currently still holds the all time street class record.)

I will be posting some data and video later this week.
Other Drives:

Fellow S2000 enthusiast "Stinkytofu" drove the Evasive Evo this year again to defend the fastest Limited Class title from last year. Unfortunately, we had a tough defeat where we lost to Gates311 EvoX by 0.1 seconds. We were able to improve our time from last year and ran 1:49.9 and placed 2nd overall for the Limited Class. Given the problems we faced with the car, we are happy with the results of the Evasive Evo. Since the top 3 Limited class cars are separated by less then a second, the competition is definitely tight and we look forward to the battle next year.

On a side note, 1:54.888 lap time of AJ-Racing S2000 from two years ago was not beaten by any of the Limited FR entries. Not bad for a 240whp NA street registered and street driven car... with full interior. AJ-Racing S2000 still holds the Fastest Limited NA! Various FI S2000s from SOS SC, KW SC, Custom Turbo x2 have tried but the record still stands.
