Some numbers:

Road & Track, 02/1992
Model : 968
Year : 1992
MSRP : $47K
Torque : 225
Power : 236
CurbWeight : 3154
0-60 mph : 5.6
0-100 mph : 14.7
60-100 mph : 9.1
0-1/4 mile : 14.2 @ 98mph
Skidpad : 0.93G

Car & Driver, 08/1999
Model : S2000
Year : 2000
MSRP : $32K
Torque : 153
Power : 240
CurbWeight : 2755
0-60 mph : 5.3
0-100 mph : 13.8
60-100 mph : 8.5
0-1/4 mile : 14.0 @ 99.5mph
Skidpad : 0.92G

My 968 Cabriolet is a 1995 with 29k miles one of 350+ made that year. It has a NA 3.0 Litre 4 Cylinder with the first 6 speed and VarioCam that Porsche put into production. Was billed as the best handling Porsche built and one of the best handling production cars of all time. If you think the SpeedCraft turbo is expensive the turbo kit for this one is upwards of $20K.

You can see the rest at S2000 and Porsche 968

If only I could have found my S in white. By the way the color for the Porsche is GrandPrix White.

Which 230+HP 4 cylinder car to drive today?

Great pictures on the site!

A friend on mine used to have a '95 red 968 convertible. Watercooled 4 cylinder. I drove it about 3 years ago before he sold it. Does the s2000 feel any quicker to you? I can't remember that far back.

He had to sell the car after he got a job in Detriot at the Chrysler plant.

Have fun with the car(s).

P.S. Here is a guys post who used to have a 968 and just got a s2000 as well - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=75332

its gettnig late but i'm just not understanding on thing.. maybe u guys can clear it up.. 0-100 on the s2k is 13.8 and 1/4 is 14.0 at 99 mph.. does that mean u hit 100 on the way to the 1/4 mile and then it slows down to 99 mph .2 secs later?? either the 0-100 should be longer than 14.0.. or the 1/4 mile trap speed shoudl be at least 100 no?

sorry its late.

Yeah the S does feel quicker to me. Like in the thread you listed my 968 doesn't have th M030 suspension either so there is defintely more roll in the corners but not much. Also no shifter feels as good to me as the S so I may have to look into a short shift kit. The biggest plus for the 968 over the S2000 is that you can actually hold a conversation at 85+MPH.

I used to have a 94 Porsche 968 that I sold before getting my S2K. The car was a blast to drive, and I had made quite a few modifications (Chip, Koni Yellow, H&R, B&B exhaust, Sway Bars, etc...). It got dyno'ed at 208 rear wheels HP and about 210 lb of torque. I agree with you that even stock, the S feels faster. I think that it is partly due to its lighter weight (about 300 lbs faster).
If you follow the link below, you will see what mine looked like before I sold it. I actually sold it for more than I paid for!! It had 45K miles at the time. This is the only car that represented an investment for me.

While the 944/968 always got a bad rap with most Porschephiles, I alawys liked the cars. I had a fraternity brother in school with a 944S2 (at least that's the moniker I recall). It was quick and handled very, very well.

Beautiful cars.
