Default Alpine Imprint

So it looks like the imprint really works!

I don't know how the programming works, can the head be set for three different curves (open windows down, windows up and top up) with an imprinter and then it can be removed? Or do you have to have the imprinter hooked up all the time?

Thanks!

i think you have to have the imprint unit at all times for it to function.. It'd be sweet if you didn't, then we could organize local "imprint" meets and tune everyone's system with one unit.

Some people from the UK did it.

Once you tune it, you can send it back in. All imprint units memorize the settings and keep playing at those same tuned settings. So yeah, you could have an imprint meet

That's exactly what we did - I own the kit that operates the 9887R HU, and a few of us own it, so it was quite a fun day.

We're going to be doing it again soon as a couple of guys have now got new kit installed. I'll update the thread linked above as and when.

To answer a the questions:
The 9887 can store 2 curves, however, these can only be taken from one measurement. With one car, we tried to do 1) a roof up measurement and save that to "Curve 1", and then 2) a roof down measurement and save that to "Curve 2". However, the Curve 1 settings were over-written when we began the measurement process again.

So, you have to do the measurement once, and load two different types of curve, "Reference" and "Reference with mid Comp" to Curves 1 and 2 on the HU. Fortunately, "Reference with mid Comp" works best with Windows down and "Reference" works well with windows up.

Yea I definitely stand corrected... I spoke to a local audio shop as well and they mentioned that they could do an imprint tuning for about $50 for an hour.

Great info all. I want one to set the levels properly, but it seemed like a huge add-on expense for the basic alpine system. But well worth it, if I can rerun for new speakers, etc.

So out here in the west coast (Nor Cal) we can just do a meet and tune. A few 20 buck imprints to cover costs?

I just purchased an Alpine 9887 HU with 2 Imprint settings programmed in, I will post a review as I hope to have it installed this week.
