Default Honda needs slapped real hard: Auto-down windows live just a few months in models

Honda picked a real winner for window regulator sourcing.

* My 2001 Civic EX Auto-down window stopped working right after a couple months.

* My 2002 S2000 did the same.

* I have found out that Integra and Insight owners have the same problem.

Honda's had the problem a couple years now, when are they going to get UPGRADED regulators???

http://www.litenverden.com/insight/main4.htm

"Tech line knows about problem. Updated parts are not available at this time! ! No repair made." According to the post, ". . . there is a problem internal to the drivers window motor involving the Insight and the S2000. Something involving the motor shaft and an internal short causing the auto down feature to work only intermittently." This was on the discussion group today (March 22, 2001) -- Service Bulletin 01-013(2/6/2001)Drivers window auto down function does not work. Symptom-When you use the Auto function to lower the window, the window goes down only 3-4 inches. The window goes down all the way if you push the power window switch lightly and hold it. Probable Cause-Contamination in the window motor causes a loss of ground. Corrective Action-Replace the window regulator assembly. Parts Info-Left window regulator assembly: P/N 72250-S3Y-A01, H/C 6348494 Flat rate time 1 hour.

After the dealer fixes it, the channel has problems and the door makes noise. This is what I don't want to go through with my car 'cause the dealer takes my door apart

More fuel to the fire: My wife's CR-V has had two window regulators replaced, too (though mainly b/c windows were noisy and made clunking sounds, not b/c they stopped working).

My S2k is 2 years and 50 weeks old - no experience of problems of this nature.

I have never experienced this problem on the two Hondas (Del Sol & S2000) I have owned or the two other Preludes that I have driven. One of the Preludes was a Series 2 and 14 years old whilst the other is a Series 3 and 10 years old. All electrics work just great.

Here's the cars I've had that do not/did not have this problem:

99 CRV EX
88 Accord LXi
00 Acura 3.2TL
95 Integra GS-R
92 Civic EX
88 Legend LS Coupe
88 CRX Si

...so you see, it's not my point: on cars Engineered before the year 2000 this was not a problem.

Destiny, I feel for ya. It's the sh!ts when you have crap like this happen.
At the risk of jinxing my car, I must say that it's almost been two years and the windows have never even "hiccupped".

In the '97 Accord, we heard a loud thump and the window stopped working. Turns out part of it had fallen down in the door. Regulator or not, I don't remember. '00 Odyssey. No window problems so far.

I have had it replaced twice in my 2000 S2000. When it quit working the second time, I was really pissed. Then, I decided to just live with it until they REALLY had a fix. Suddenly it started working again and (knock on wood) has worked since. I think it has to do with the outside temp. It seems to crap out in the cooler months. Just my opinion.
