My car is having serious problems- HELP!
Previously I posted that my car broke down on the side of the highway last week. Well, after 1 week of Werseloh having the car, my car is still having problems. I picked up the car today after talking with Ron, who thought they had the car fixed. I was driving home tonight and indeed my car would rev over 6k..into vtec, but vtec did not seem to be engaging. Would not pull at all....well...I got home...I told my friend who took me to the dealer..we took it for a test drive again, and sure enough...the check engine light came on and the car stalled. Fortunately we were able to restart the car, but the check engine light stays on and the car stalls every time the revs get low. Unfortunately it was too late to take it back or have it towed to Weseloh...I guess it will be back in the shop tomorrow. Looks like she will definitely be at Weseloh for the Big So Cal event, but it will be in a service bay being looked at....
PS. while at Weseloh...I noticed that my car has started to tick...a tick tick tick noise....I pointed it out to Ron, but he just felt that the valves need adjustment..... Do you think this could lead to catastrophic engine failure like I have been reading. The car has never been overrevved......

I would check the valve clearances myself, if I were you. There is allot of info on this board about it, and it can be done in about a half hour (if you just check them, not adjust them). If they are out of spec, you can either adjust them yourself, or take it back to the dealer.
At this point, I would HOPE that the engine has to be replaced (under warranty). However, I doubt the dealer that is helping you is at all qualified to do it. They have proven their incompetence! If they were doctors instead of mechanics, they would be facing a serious lawsuit!

It's true, our car does have a lot of valvetrain noise, enough that some have gotten paranoid about the #4 "tick-tick" symptom. desert tortoise, though, who had the #4 problem, says that the tick-tick he was hearing was EXTREME; I think his quote was, "you will definitely wonder what is wrong with your car; other people will ask you what is wrong with your car..." Have you checked Barry from Wyoming's summary thread about the #4 failure? I believe he catalogued all the symptoms people have had...
Otherwise, maybe the MIL (check engine light) will give Weseloh some more clues...

well....thanks for all the advice... the car was towed to Weseloh this morning....Upon speaking with Ron..the service manager...i advised him some people on the board are suggesting possibly the #4 cylinder, b/c of the spark plug issue, and also the compression. He said they were going to look at the ticking noise as well.
Could it be the valves that would be causing the car not to vtec as well....?
Hopefully they will find out what the heck it is....
Now only if they would give me a damn rental car or loaner....This is a total of 7 days straight they have had the car and no loaner....

Re.: If your car conked out for no apparent reason...
While speaking with a couple of co-workers about engine problems, the topic of intermittent failures came up. With at least two people that I know of on this board that have suddenly had their car mysteriously die, I noticed a similarity between their stories and the ones here in the office.
To those people, I offer the following possibility...is your coolant temp sensor operating 100%? If it's getting flakey, the ECU will think the engine is way colder than reality, and if I understand things correctly, most modern ECUs will kill the engine to avoid damage. Two guys here had that exact problem...it was hard to diagnose since it was flakey, but that was the eventual cause.
Didn't get all of the details for the first case, but in the second case, the cylinders were becoming flooded. I'm not sure if this was an associated issue or not, so I only offer it as info to let YOU decide. After running the car for a few minutes, it would refuse to start once shut down due to the high-level of gas in the cylinders. The solution to THAT problem was to remove the fuse to the fuel pump, crank the car for a few seconds to dump the fuel, replace fuse, crank it up. If it WAS associated with the coolant temp sensor, it means the ECU was dumping more fuel than reality dictated thinking the engine was cold....maybe like an automatic choke?
Thoughts anyone

Wow...this sounds utterly familiar....my car won't vtec...kinda like when you have 1 bar on the temp guage and the car pulls back on you....
any thoughts guys...? could this be it...?

A more likely situation to cause the ECU to dump MORE fuel would be if the engine was running too hot. If the engine is cold, it will provide LESS fuel, to heat it up, which is the case when you first start the car.
