Default Spring Fling 2011 May 13-15 - ITINERARY

Spring Fling 2011 - Welcome to Asheville

Thursday May 12
6:00pm to 7:00pm - Early Registration
7:30 until ?? - Ken's exorbitant dinner at Cucina 24. No menu, lots of courses. The last time we did this, we asked for 4 courses and dessert and paired wines. The chef was so excited about us doing this, we ended up with 6 courses. An amazing dining experience. If you'd like to join us, send me a PM and I'll give you the details.

Friday May 13
2:30 to 6:30pm - Registration
10:00am - Drive rehearsal - Checking the route. All are welcome. Meet in the lobby at 9:45. Depart at 10:00am. Should return around 1:30pm

Reception - 6:30 to 7:30 Atrium. Come and have an adult beverage and renew friendships and make new friends.

Today would be a good time to tour the Biltmore House. We have three tickets for admission ($45 ea) or you can get tickets at the front desk at the special price of $55 (that was the price the last time we were here, I'll check and verify the price before Friday).

Dinner: There will be information on the many restaurants in Asheville at registration. There are also a number of brew-pubs. Have a good time, be safe, don't overindulge.

Saturday May 14
Drive: The official Spring Fling 2011 Drive will form in the back hotel parking lot. Drivers meeting: 9:45
Spirited Group departs: 10:00am
Moderate Group departs: 10:15am
Please be on time.

Spirited Group: FRS Radio Channel 4.0
Moderate Group: FRS Radio Channel 5.0

Lunch will be at Mt. Mitchell at approximately 11:30 for the Spirited Group and noon for the moderate group. Lunch will be $12.50 per person which covers food, drinks, tax and tip.

Banquet: Happy hour starts at 6:30 with dinner at 7:00pm. There will be a cash bar. The menu will be some of NC's great BBQ (and fried chicken).

Sunday May 15
Time to get ready to head home. There will be drive maps for a drive to Highlands. If you've never been to Highlands, it's a town of Victorian houses, antique shops, neat boutiques and Southern Hospitality. There will also be directions to Deal's Gap if you want to drive the Dragon.

Yoon-Hee and I hope you have a great time. It's been a rather difficult time this year due to the software upgrade and crazy gas prices so, to the people who decided that friendships and a great car are enough of a reason to get together, our most heartfelt thanks.

(Patricia, I couldn't have done it without you. I'm eternally grateful for your untiring help and to all the people who jumped in and assisted...thank you very much, it was invaluable).

Ken, thanks for taking the helm...we'd be iffy at best. Vacation time is not what it used to be and that's a long drive from our neck of the woods.

I would encourage anyone that has never been to Asheville to attend SF11. Taking a tour of the Biltmore house is worth the trip. It was opened on Christmas Eve of 1898 and not only had electricity but each bedroom had it's own bath. Considering that most houses back then did NOT have in door plumbing that was quite the news of the day. Oh, don't forget the indoor pool and bowling alley.

If that doesn't do it for you perhaps you would like to eat (or at least see) the world's fanciest McDonalds
