We started the day by meeting at Elmer’s. Some had breakfast and others hung around the damp parking lot until departure time.
Paul shows his prowess at parking in formation, again…
Then we were off.
It was dry in the valley but misty up on the mountain.
Our first casualty of the day was Mark who discovered that the mechanic who serviced his car yesterday forgot to put the oil filler cap back on. Mark and Kerry limped back to Portland to find a replacement cap.
We proceeded around the flank of the mountain and then across the Dufur Road. We encountered some fun twisties and dry pavement for a change.
At The Dalles we split up for lunch.

Following lunch we proceeded down the Gorge to Bingen/White Salmon.
And then we headed up to B Z Corner.
At B Z Corner the groups met again at a gas station parking lot for a pit-stop before the fun part. We basked in beautiful sunny skies !
And then off again.
We travel up the curvy highway to Glenwood.
Then on the Glenwood-Goldendale Highway across hither and yon until we reached the climbing curves.
Once on top we head over to the one-lane road down to Klickitat.
Then down the Klickitat river.
At the Chamberlain Rest Area we regroup for a pit-stop.
While there, an interesting old convertible pulled in – a Morgan.
Some of our group were amused by it and asked about the engine. The owner popped the hood to show off . . . an S2000 engine! Amazing!
Notice the handy tool carrier under the hood with essential supplies - roll of garbage can liners, hammer, plumbing parts, flexible conduit, etc.
He had the last laugh as he Vtec’d out of the parking lot before we left.
After heading west on I-84, we exited for the Historic Columbia Gorge Highway. We had some minor delays, but Amy gave us a spirited drive.
Finally at the lookout we enjoyed the view of the Gorge and said our goodbyes and went our separate ways.
It was a good drive. The weather was better than expected and there were a lot of smiling faces at the end. And, after all, that’s what it is all about.
Thanks to Doug and Amy for doing a great job of leading, to all the "regulars" who attended and especially our “new” attendees: Arnie (AWsum_s2k) & Wendy, Brian (Red_5), Steve (lotplot) & Rebecca, John (mezzfin), Steffan (chun) and Sheri.
We hope to see you at next month’s Astoria Drive / Beach Party!

No photos, but we wanted to say thanks to Larry and Aaron (as well as Doug & Amy) for their hard work in planning and leading The Gorge drive today! The weather was a bit touchy at the start but improved as the day progressed. Tops down all around EVEN over Bennet’s Pass at Mt Hood down into Dufur & The Dalles.
A great route and a good group of people to share it with!
Turned out a gorgeous day after all and all the winding road that we've encountered, wow. I would like to give thanks to Aaron and Larry for organizing this amazing drive as well our leader Doug. I had such a fun, fun time meeting with new people and meeting with everybody. See you guys again on our next adventure.....i had a freaking great time.
Well, it sucked to miss out on the sunny portion of the drive. We got back to town just fine but had to order a cap for the oil. Thanks for the help hope to see all of you soon. Kerry and Mark
