Default Update on my engine failure and hondas failure to honour its warranty.

Things are not looking much better.

An engine inspection by an engineer from a reputable independent party. (RACQ - Royal Automotive Club of Queensland) arrived to the conclusion that a loose #2 big end bearing cap retaining bolt was the cause of the engine failure. i forwarded this report to Honda Australia.

They are saying that this bolt was loose/failed because the engine was overreved. WTF?
The valve train is in perfect condition and a CEL has never been triggered.

Furthermore Honda Australia had their own independent inspection done.

Guess what?

They are refusing to forward the results to me. Doesn't it seem like they are hiding something?

All comments and opinions can be forwarded to steveb@honda.com.au the customer relations manager.

It may be a stupid question, but how can the car be overreved when it has a limiter on it anyway???

Or are they coming from the angle of constant abuse? Even so I would have thought you'd destroy your clutch before your engine?

First of all, is your car modded ?

Then, ask "whoever you spoke to" to put down in writing (black & white) that they believe it is due to over-revving , and also ask them to define 'over-reving'.

It is good to keep everything in black and white.

VTEC are designed to be rev-upped.

Let us know how you go.

Good luck

My car has a custom exhaust. That is irrelevant however. Apart from that it is completely stock.

Fvck knows why they think it is due to an over rev.

As I said the valves are all in perfect condition and there never have been any check engine lights triggered. If you do a search on engine failure due to overrev you will find at least 20 cases. All of them resulted in bent or broken valves and check engine lights appearing.

You can overrev the engine by shifting down and letting the clutch out. No rev limiter on earth will prevent it. I've seen an E46 M3 put a conrod through the block this way and BMW covered it under warranty. Given that S2000s seem to bend valves before trashing the bottom end (Jacob, is Spoon's high rev engine stock in the bottom end?) it looks like they don't have a leg to stand on and they are simply being obstinate. The onus is on them to prove the engine was overreved and they can't. They probably see engine failures left right and centre from driver abuse and they are sick of it, but it looks like dhess is the victim of other people's mistakes here.

Dom, I cannot believe the $hit that they are pulling!!! I've sent the email to the RIGHT address this time. We'll see what they say.

And for everyone's benefit... I have gone on quite a few drives with Dominic, and let me tell you he's no more aggresive on the road than any other S2000 that I have been in. So this crap about "over-revving" is a load of SHIT.

Hi dhess,
I sympathise with you' re action from Honda. I had a gearbox problem and went through the "customer service" b/s - I finished up writing to Honda MD, Lindsay Smallie in Melb. telling him that a new gearbox was in order, and what was I to say when people asked me what I thought of my new Honda. I had a new box in a week.
Suggest you write to him and demand a new engine, lest all the Honda Sports Car Club members will knock on his door!!!!
Cheers, MarkB
