I'm fascinated by the universal praise of GM Synchromesh fluid. My problem is that my transmission shifts perfectly just as it came from the dealership. I've only owned manual transmissions, so I'm not a shifting newbie. I cannot imagine a better shifting transmission than what I've got now.

I've got about 4,000 miles on my car. Is there any reason why I shouldn't just change to GM Synchromesh anyway?

If I do, I'll probably have the dealer change the transmission fluid.

 

If your car is over a year old, you should probably consider changing your tranny fluid with Honda MTF, since it seems to work well for you. You should change your differential fluid too. I haven't heard from anyone who wasn't completely disgusted by the color and smell of their old diff fluid.

I don't know what you are thinking, but if your tranny is shifting smoothly why mess with it?

 

How OLD is the car? If the oil is more than a year old, it should probably be replaced anyway.

 

Consider my alternative.


My S2000 is 22 months old.

 

Do you think the improved smoothness would help against misshifting or possibly make it easier to do? I'm just wondering if the increased smoothness would increase the possibility of accidentally slipping into a wrong gear.

 

Talent goes a long way towards correcting missed shifts.
