This was my first weekend with the supercharger. It's been a beautiful relationship so far. The supercharger dumps lots of air into the engine. The S2000 has a lot more torque at any RPM. It sounds real good too. The engine and exhaust have a deeper roar - and unlike others I don't really notice the blower except at idle; it just makes a little hiss and whistle.

It rained most of the weekend but today was very nice weather. I found a few racers on the streets this weekend and here's the results. Mustang 5.0, claiming he has 350 HP at the wheels, he got beat - barely. Firebird, late model, suped up (couldn't tell what exactly other than aftermarket exhaust - loud), totally wasted. Just like in the stock S2000 dumping down to 2nd gear at about 54 is where the S2000 takes off. Before I could even hit 70 I had a car length inbetween my car and his. I slowed down and gave him another chance, poor guy. I ran into a "Saleen" Mustang, but I think it only had a Saleen license plate - he got smoked too.

The supercharger is very, very powerful. When you floor you are thrust back into your chair. Shifting gears does more of the same. It's really impressive.

I went out to a remote area and measured 0-60 with the Gtech. I had a hard time with the launch, it's just got so much more torque than stock. It turned out that the best launch isn't any different than with the stock engine (7,000 RPMs from my experience), it just feels different. I'm not sure that I've got it down just yet, but my best Gtech times were 5.1 seconds. I'm hoping to be able to drop that to the high 4's. If not with the supercharger, with new ignition timing, spark plugs, and wires that better fit a supercharged engine.

Here is a picture of the supercharger.

Against popular vote I added the "Supercharged" sticker.

For those who are curious, here are some numbers from Road and Track (Road Test Summary Feb 2001 - can be found in the back of every R&T issue) on cars that have similar 0-60's:

NSX - 4.9
BMW M5 - 5.0
Corvette (non-Z06) - 4.8
Corvette Hardtop - 5.3
Corvette Convertible - 5.2
Ferrari F355 Spider - 5.3
Ferrari 456 GTA - 5.1
Mustang Cobra R - 4.8
Nissan Skyline GT-R - 5.2
911 Carrera (bottom model) - 5.0

I'm sorry, but that just has to be done!

Now, how to find the money? I guess the new kitchen can wait

Nice write up Wesmaster. This is, however, no endorsement of street racing!

In my past experience the G-Tech Pro is about 2 tenths slower than published data. If this were in fact the case, that would give you 4.9. In any case, 60mph in your car is just getting started...we need the 0-100, 0-150, and 1/4 mi data...PLEASE.

Congrats on your victories.

I will definitely do a 1/4 mile run before the middle of the week (possibly even tomorrow). Check for it to be posted. Sometime soon I'll take it to a 1/4 mile track as well.

Wesmaster,

What did the SC package cost you and what did you have to spend for the install.
If I recall correctly, you were having it installed at a Honda dealer. How will that effect your warranty?

Did you get it done at John Eagle Honda on 1960? If so, I'm pissed because I heard about it and went to see it but you had JUST picked it up... I live right there at 1960/290.

Wesmaster, could you please comment further on what you plan to do for ignition timing, spark plugs and wires? I will be getting the SC soon and would be interested in knowing about other things that are simple to do to optimize performance with the SC.

Anybody else with the SC done things such as Wesmaster mentioned?

Answers:

Costs:
The supercharger kit is just over $5,000 with tax. The kit comes with all kinds of replacement parts. Blower (duh), fuel regulator, fuel pump, fuel rail, modified crank pulley, to name a few items. I had the blower installed at John Eagle Honda in Houston, they have a performance parts/installation division. The cost of the install was $900. I dropped the car off on Monday, and I picked it up on Friday evening.

Warranty:
Having Honda install the supercharger does nothing to keep you from voiding the warranty. It's not that the complete car warranty is void now, but if I something in the engine they're going to blame it on the SC. It's something you'll either have to prove to be false, or take up with Comptech. I have 32,000 miles on the car, warranty runs out very soon - not really concerned about warranty.

To Marc:
If you read above, yes, I had it done at John Eagle. I live right there too, in the apartments next to the dealership. If you happen to be the gray S2K that always see's a red S2K on 290 (with some punk kid driving it), well then - that's me.

SC accompanying mods:
This is an answer to rocketman's question. I've learned most of this from reading magazines, and a book called "Street Supercharging" that I bought at the book store. When you take a stock engine and supercharge it. Your putting much more dense air than the stock system was designed to ignite. It is possible, that the stock spark, from the spark plugs, might not be good enough to fire perfectly every time. Getting a better spark will insure that you've got a good enough spark to run at peak performance. There are a few things that can contribute to a good spark. Buying a Ignition Controler will help. An ignition controler can do a few things, but from what I understand they ALL act like an amplifier for the charge. They amplify the spark. Some can produce multiple, fast, charges - to insure an ignition. MSD Ignition is the most popular maker of these, from what I can tell. Spark plugs can also be upgraded. If you have an ingition timer, you can now have a larger gap in the spark plug, which would make a larger spark - and better ignition. The last thing is the spark plug wires, higher quality wires allow a better flow of electricity - for once again, a better ignition.
