Default EPS light on, after fixing car

I just recently bought and fixed a 2000 white S2000 that I bought in the States. I live in Canada and unfortunately white with red is not available here. The car is just about ready but the EPS light is on. I don't have the owner's manual although it wouldn't help. I would bring it to the dealer but there is two things wrong with that. I don't have warranty because the car came from the states and I don't trust the people there. I was wondering if you guys can help me with this problem. Anything you can tell me would be most appreciated. Thanks

Simon

Buy a Helm Manual:

www.helm.com

This will allow you to troubleshoot it yourself provided you hacve an OBD-II scan tool.

The EPS (Electric Power Steering) is a complicated system. A few people have posted about having problems with it. There's 37 pages on this alone in the Helm manual, so a bit much to post up here. I don't think it is something that a home mechanic would find simple to diagnose or to repair.

Check the fuse... it's in the engine bay on the driver's side.

The EPS light will come on if you don't move but keep the revs up above a certain level. It happened to me... I was warming up the engine while waiting for my passenger and bingo: EPS on!

No need to tell you that that delayed me another half an hour... get out, look for the helms manual, lookup EPS, read 30 pages of it and somewhere find out that this is normal behaviour and that the light goes off after you get going...

You can reset the EPS system yourself in 5 minutes and see if it helps - most probably it just need to re-earn the steering postions. I've done it a couple times and it's very easy. I found the instructions on this board in a thred, if you can't find them let me know and I'll try to help you out.
