Default Lower seat height: Aftermarket seats

My only real concern with the S2000 is the fact my head is over the rollhoops. I had the stock seat modified to lower my position but my head is still over the bar. I have one question:

Has anyone installed aftermarket seats for the purpose of lowering their seat position? If so, which seats did you choose, how much were they and how much lower than stock were you able to get?

I take my car to the track often so this is quite a concern for me.

I have read all the threads related to this issue but have not heard any difinitive answers or first hand experience.

Your input is much appreciated.

I have the same problem . Triple-H actually had a roll bar installed. It looks great and should provide the clearance you need.

Well, since I am having same problem as you I have been looking to lower my seat as well. The best information I got, I got it through Chris at Scienceofspeed.com. He has done the seat replacement on his own S2000. I'll share info I got from Chris.

"The Roadster will not give you the ride drop like the REV or Recaro SPG. You'd need to use either seat for the kind of drop you are looking for. You'll get about 2" of drop with either. Due to the floor pan design of the S2000, it's not possible to get much more with any seat. I use the Recaro SPG in my own car, and like it the best. The Rev is a close second. The rails are $245.00 each, and the seat $490.00."

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses. If I remember correctly, some of the mods that were suggested on the board would give you 2" drop using stock seats by lowering the seat tray and cutting some foam out. It is disappointing that you can get much more with aftermarket seats.

The Recaros are nice but pricey! Over 1500K for the pair not including the rails.

Does anyone have pictures of their seats?

I borrowed this picture from Sienceofspeed.com Hope he doesn't mind...

This is Recaro SPG. Chris also stated that Sparco Rev would fit also. Most other seats are too wide.

I have installed a Sparco Roadster seat mounted on modified Taitec rails in my car. The modification involved replacing the straight rear cross bar with a slightly curved one allowing and additional 1" drop compared with the "stock" Taitec rails. The bottom of the seat now grazes across the carpeted floor. This is about 3" lower than a stock setup.

The seat costs about $500, the rails were about $235 plus $25 fabrication costs, and $5 for a seatbelt receiver from a junkyard CRX.

Even with this modified seating position, The only way that I could get lower than the roll structure was to install an aftermarket one. I went with the Bitternman Bar and now the top of my helmet is about 1" below the top of the roll bar. I have a VERY long torso, so this solution should work for pretty much anyone.

Joshua, I am probably in the same position as you. How tall are you? I am 6 feet and also have a long torso. Do you have any pictures of your car with the seats and rollbar?

Thanks!

Does anyone know whether you can replace the stock seat rails?

I spoke with someone at a shop and they said that the real drop in seat height is achieved with the rails and not with the actual seat selection.

I'll try to take some photos of my setup and post them on Wednesday.

The only way I could substantially lower my seating position was with an aftermarket seat (less padding) and the special rail needed to mount it in the car in a lower position. So, both a seat and rail are needed in this application. I've taken the stock seat apart, and there's no easy way that I can see to mount it on different rails.
