I've had an AP1 w/ 17's and 255 rear tires. I prefer the way my AP2 behaves in normal driving conditions over the AP1. The AP2 is more refined.

One of each is certainly the very best way to go.

For me, the AP1 2003 is just so gratifying when driven on the back roads, the AP2 2006 is well, not as much but still very fun. Best for you to experience both and decide, it will be your car in the end. Good luck.

Model year remains the best description. AP1 and AP2 are common shorthand only in North America where I'm guessing more than half the S2000s were sold just based on populations. Sometimes the UK guys get confused and use Registration Year (something to do with taxes) and plate prefixes. Car registered in 2004 could easily be a 2003 model.
