“only you would find a car halfway across the country when you’re already taking a trip out there”
Pushing 30, getting married and on my way to a career change for the better; 2020 was seemingly going to be our strongest year. Well, there has been a few setbacks here and there; first with COVID and then in April there was the vandalism towards my most recent turbocharged RSX (my second totaled out RSX, thanks to scum). After hustling and grinding out the most money I could get from my recent RSX project I decided to set my sights high and get an S2000 out of it. After two months of dealing with insurance and parting out my project I had a war chest for a low mile Ap2, preferably in LBP or RYP. Two months went by, nothing really I needed to have so I decided to stop actively looking and focus on an upcoming trip to Kentucky me and my lady were going to take. Long story short; Pat’s 2007 LBP S2000 popped up on Louisville Craigslist which I found it by accident pretty much. A little back and forth led to me putting a down payment on an unseen car, my first out of state car buying experience. Three weeks later and a lot of waiting, we made the trip to Nashville and drove the rest of the way to what was actually Indiana. It really didn’t hit me that I was buying a car until we arrived that Monday morning; greeted by two great people I finally got to see this extremely well cared for S2000. I didn’t even drive it yet before I knew that this was the one, the test drive was simply icing on the cake and after we got back, we got the deal done.
First thing I did with my new purchase, I panicked and called Pat and asked how to put the car in reverse…. Not my proudest moment but something that I can laugh about for life, who knew you could push down and put the car in reverse? Not exactly K series standard protocol so I was lost. With that hiccup out of the way, I took my first ride down the 150 to the 64 into Louisville; pure bliss.
Summarizing the rest of the trip through the south;
-couple 300 mile driving days
-frog tape bumper bra
-falling in love with the back roads of TN/KY
-locking the keys in the trunk, tough lesson
-No license plate (until a really cool kid at the Honda of Murfreesboro *Thanks for the paper plate*)
-Road trip to pay respects to the man to help me be financially (This is my “Dave” Car)
It was then we began the tandem journey back home to California;
-Day one was 12 hours through TN/AR/OK, top down for 3 hours in OK was awesome but that leg of the trip sucked.
-Day 2 was 8 hours through OK/TX/NM/AZ, mostly meh… almost attempted the big Texan challenge
-Day 3 was 4 Hours with a stop at family in AZ, really great
-Day 4 was the 6 hour trip back to CA, what boring drive that was, sad to be back home to be honest
Lessons learned:
-Frog tape works great
-Reverse is down and to the side *Repeats overs and over*
-Don’t lock the keys in the trunk or in the car, auto-lock
-Semis’ in other states don’t stay in the slow lane
-The S2000 is as much of a road trip car as the RSX
-CA’s highways are overrated and IMO terrible in comparison to the states I drove in
-Drive a cross country trip with two people, and let that person win a few arguments
-Keep tallies of all the memorable moments on your hood
Brought it home safe and sound IN --> CA, no: dents, dings, tickets, or scratches. Had it at almost 4k rpms most days and wow what a car, just so smooth. The mileage total speaks for itself; it was a journey but I would do it again in the same car. The trip was a great way to close my 20s and a great way to see how much I can annoy my wife before she would threaten me. The biggest surprise however was that I was able to fit all my luggage in the trunk, and have space for 2 people in the car with drinks and other road accessories. Id like to say I have big plans for this car, but unfortunately, I don’t. Quite honestly its great the way it is (minus the Invidia N1) and I have the long journey to thank for that perspective. So :wavey: here I am at last, a proud pickle of an S2000 owner.
I love the running tallies on the green bra. It looks pretty good that you had more rest stops than arguments. That seems like a lot of middle fingers, is that ones your give to other drivers or were given to you, or toward each other when the other wasn't looking.

Most of our arguments were centered around the fact that we had to make a rest stop an hour after she got her Starbucks, I learned to let it go lol. All the middle fingers were given to us, usually was centered on the fact that us going 80 in the fast lane wasn't fast enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ya, here in Mi you'll get flipped off for only going 80 in the left lane too. I usually find putting the top down stops all arguments because it's too loud to talk, lol.
