Advice for my future 2006 AP2
Hey everyone!
My name is Peter and this is my first ever post in the S2000 forum. After reading car forums forever, I finally decided to register so I can chat about your s2k's and mine.
So here's my situation:
I am so incredibly fortunate to have a father that decided to purchase an S2000 right around the time I was learning to drive and a mother that allowed this to happen (albeit after much convincing). Back in 2010 we found a 2006 AP2 in Suzuka Blue with black interior on CarMax with less than 17,000 miles on it. I believe there was one owner in Florida before it was sold to CarMax, transferred to Connecticut and then to our local CarMax dealer in Maryland for $200. I really wanted a silver S2000 with the red interior but we just couldn't pass up the deal we got on the 2006 S2000. I will give major props to CarMax because this car was quite a find.
The car has been left mostly stock, we only upgraded the stereo head unit to a more modern one with Bluetooth, AUX, and XM radio and also upgraded the door speakers. It still drives great, feels as tight as a drum and never misses a beat. It's such a perfect car and now that the supply is only getting smaller, there's no way I would ever let this car out of the family.
So anyway I'm getting close to being done with my degree and getting out into the money making world and I'm hoping that my father will soon sign the title over to me. If this happens, and I have freedom to do with the car as I like, I have some big plans for it. The 2.2L V-Tech is such a screamer but I think it could use just a little bit more so I was thinking forced induction. I love the sound and feel of a turbo. I also don't know how many options there are for superchargers that work on the S2000. Does anyone have any recommendations on turbo/supercharger setups? I also like the idea of chipping the engine but I've read that it doesn't improve performance as much on naturally aspirated engines. What else would you suggest to do other than routine maintenance to boost performance?
Aesthetically, the Suzuka Blue has grown on me, but I still think I'd like to change it. Has anyone tried a plasti dip? It seems like a nice cheap way to change the color but I feel like a DIY job might turn out horrible. Also the rear tires are just about out of tread and need to be replaced. I hate to take it out in the snow but sometimes it's inevitable so something with decent tread is preferable. What tires do you guys like to use on your S2000? Anything else you would recommend for someone who right now can only daydream about what modifications to do? I want to keep this car forever so is there any specific maintenance or something I should look out for to keep the car in the best condition possible?
I appreciate any advice you have for me.

Yeah take it step by step tires man. The right set of wheels wud make the paint pop, I think grey wheels look good on suzuka. If you chip the car I think the ap2s make about 20 more torque and a little hp. you only said a little more power. Haha have fun drive safe!

You should get tires before you no longer have the s2000 to play with. I run Bridgestone RE11As and they are awesome extreme summer tires with great wet and dry ratings. However I live in New Mexico and snow is not a concern.
I would not plastic dip an entire car. I seen wrapped s2000's that look great, but I would worry about the vinyl hurting the condition of my paint (which could be possible). I think gun metal, white, black, gold aftermarket wheels on a Suzuki Blue s2000 would look great. Some JDM spoon brake calipers, slotted rotors, aftermarket lip and mirrors, amuse exhaust, OEM hard top with tinted windows, a fresh polish/wax would really make that car pop.

If you want more information on Boost, s2ki has a section dedicated to force induction. Do your research there to obtain the answers to your questions. There are many options to superchargers (check force induction section). Does chipping the engine mean getting a tune; if so, you have a MY06 which enables you to tune the car without aftermarket parts. In my opinion, I rather have a naturally aspirated s2000 than a boosted one. Nothing beats the sound of a NA machine, that being said, tuning the engine to obtain even 30 more horsepower on a NA engine is highly respectable!I would not plastic dip an entire car. Bald tires in the winter is asking for an accident and very quickly!
Get new tires asap! If you will be driving it year round including cold winters get 2 sets of tires. Winters and then good quality summer tires. No fun summer tire will be halfway decent in the winter.
Check out the forced induction section for all the info you could ever need!

Did anyone mention getting new tires?
My advice is to work on the handling of the car first. Tires, rims and maybe new bushings, sway bar, coilovers, etc. Make the thing ride like its on rails! (I know its already like this but imagine making it better). From there you have a superb handling car with great traction (and reliability) that you can have fun with anywhere. I say this because I think the s2000 can provide more enjoyment in twisties and turns than just accelerating in a straight line. (fast drivers vs fast cars argument)
