In Afghanistan, saving up money to get my first s2K
Congrats on the decision to buy an S2K. Tons of info on here if you do a simple search. You also can help us out a bit by letting us know what you want. Is price the most important thing? Interior/Exterior color? Garage queen vs. high mileage? Willing to put work in rescuing a car that is in need of TLC.
You really can't go wrong when you buy an S2K as they aren't high maintenance.
PS. Stay safe over there!

There aren't really a whole lot of things to look out for with an S2000, the tops tear every year or two so make sure it is in good condition, one with a hardtop is usually worth $2-3k more, partially for this reason.
The big difference is AP1 or AP2. AP1s have a 9k RPM redline, more aggressive suspension, and are cheaper. AP2s have more power with a lower redline, and softer suspension, and are usually more expensive. Also, they have different headlights and front and rear bumpers. Newer AP2s (2009s and up) have DBW (drive by wire) instead of a throttle cable, that changes the feel of the car a bit and a few of the mods are specific to those years.
In my opinion, the AP1s have more of a raw sports car feel, and the AP2s are more of a refined sports car, it feels more like a 350z or something. In terms of speed, more people can drive AP2s faster because of the softer suspension and increased power, but there isn't a huge difference.

there is an entire section for turbo s2ks on this site.
for future reference, a quick searched could have answered every question you have had so far, NOT trying to be mean, just letting you know in case you didn't know.

Welcome!
It's a good idea to be patient and have a broad search. Distance is not a big price to pay for a car in great condition. With your budget, you should be able to get a nice S2000. If you're consistently searching online through multiple sources with a wide range, you'll come across some great cars for sure. The crew is right about the info on this site... You'll find everything you could need. Here are links to two threads on the site that were super useful to me in the process:

What to look for when buying an S2000
Hope these help out a bit, they're a good read!
Good luck with the search, and be safe!
