Although I’m new to this site, I’ve had my ‘06 BB s2k for a few months shy of a year. I’ve noticed that these intros are typically quite short, but it’s hard to contain my enthusiasm for this car (and I tend to get a bit wordy anyway). It’s a significant change from an STS. I’ve owned a number of Hondas before (6, actually) and fondly remember my ’90 CRX Si.
The first time I sat in an S2000 was in the showroom of my Honda dealership where I had taken my wife’s Accord for service (that was one seriously reliable car). I had just purchased my STS and a 2-seater was out of the question, but I really wanted to take that S2000 home (and I hadn’t even driven it).
Flash forward to last year, which was a tumultuous one. Circumstances changed such that an S2000 (or whatever else along similar lines) was no longer impractical, so I started looking and test driving. Well, the drive in the S2000 instantly infected me with gottahaveititis. I went home and paced a few minutes, then I grabbed my checkbook and headed back to the dealership for the cure. After swapping a check for a car, I instantly felt relief. I took the long way home – the longest, twistiest way I could find.
Nine months later, nothing has changed – I absolutely love this car. It is simply a blast to drive. It isn’t quiet, smooth or refined (in a civilized way). Instead, it’s direct and engaging. It’s so responsive that it almost seems to anticipate my inputs. Some people wonder how such a big guy (I’m 6’2” and 230lbs) can drive such a little car, but it fits like a comfortable pair of jeans. My only gripe is the design of the soft top – there is dangerous hardware right next to my head. Oh well, I don’t intend to wreck it. I intend to drive this thing until the wheels fall off – I wonder if I should get another one now so my next car can be an S2000!
Did I mention that I love this car?
It’s just another black S2K, but here’s a picture or two. The 180SX in the first photo is my son’s.
BTW, I came here in search of wheels - success. Thanks sicknastyap1!
The bars of the top are no where near as perilous when the top is down. Have a hard time keeping mine up, except for rain! Find myself wearing hoodies with the heat on high so I can have the top down......
