so I am looking for s2000 in the socal area and there are quite a few bargains out there,,

ap1's 1999-2002 go for around 10-12k or less
my03's for 13-15k
04-05's for 16-17k
06+ drive by wire(dont want) 18k++

i know some differences,
03+ glass rear window
ap2 has 17inch wheels revised suspension
2.2 liter motor, slightly changed transmission
changes in interior and colors
anything else?


those differences worth the 3k price difference??

mainly the motor/gear ratios?

Worth is always subjective. Test driving will get you mostly to where you need to be to answer the question for yourself.

 

Glass window started with 02 model.
Get the color you want.

AP2s generally put down 10whp more than the AP1. The only reason they are not quicker 0-60 or 1/4 mile is gearing + lower redline.

As far as which to buy...when buying used, always buy the newest lowest mileage car you can afford.

If ur going to buy and ap1 make it an 02 or 03 (glass window, ecu update, tranny update). If your going to buy an ap2, make it an 04 or 05 (only because you said DBW was a problem for you).

the 9k and 8k difference means nothing. The 10 whp difference means nothing, The extra 10 or 12 lb ft. of crank torque means nothing. Equal driver skill and AP1s and AP2s are right next to each other. (It really is the same damn car)

AP2s have VSA and are more creature friendly.

AP2s= Nicer. Headlights, Wheels, and Interior look better (subjective)
AP1s= Raw, Less Tame.. IMO.

 

Just to clarify that only 06+ AP2 has VSA.

 

But 04s and up have traction control correct? I think that's what i meant..
