Default Back Again but to the Dark Side...

My Tale of Returning to an S2000

Back in 2009, I had a wonderful opportunity of purchasing a quarter-life crisis car and after months of researching I finally decided on an S2000. I was very blessed to have found a crazy deal on Craigslist at the time. Saw a 2003 AP1 Berlina Black S2000 in absolute MINT condition with 18,000 miles listed for $16,500 which was owned by an older white gentleman who upgraded to a Z06 Corvette. I actually low-balled the guy and offered him $14,100 in cash.

He actually AGREED and I was shocked. Got the car inspected at the local Honda and it had absolutely no problems since the guy had babied the car and garaged it during his entire ownership.

Anyways, after 2 years of amazing ownership, I made the choice of sacrificing the S2000 because I was planning on getting married soon and wanted to gear towards a more family friendly car. I ended up making the biggest mistake of trading it in for a 2008 Acura TL in Pearl White which had 49,000 miles. At the time of trade in, my BB S2000 only had 43,000 miles.

I ended up driving the 2008 Acura TL for only 9 months before I decided I couldn't take it anymore. Yes, the car was reliable. Yes, it had more torque. Yes, the sound system was great and it was practical and could carry more than 1 person. However, when I woke up in the morning and drove the car to work, I felt absolutely ZERO excitement. The car was absolutely ZERO fun.

It brings us to this past February where I started actively looking for another car. I test drove a GTI, Boxster, NISMO 350Z, G37S, but honestly the only car that came close was the NISMO 350Z, but I just couldn't get over the body styling.

The most ironic thing was I found another CRAZY deal (IMO) on Craigslist again for another S2000. I called the guy and couldn't believe it hadn't sold it. I actually offered him an immediate deposit on the car. This time I found ANOTHER S2000 with 18,XXX miles. It was a 2005 NFR AP2 S2000 with an OEM Hardtop for $20,000. The guy selling was another older gentleman who bought the car new and basically garage kept it the whole time and ONLY put in non-ethanol gas while NEVER driving it in the rain.

Anyways, I am happy again and the excitement of driving the S2000 is back. My wife has a G37S which I drive sometimes, but it just doesn't have that same feeling. Here are some pictures.

Not too sure on how pricing works in the US but for Canada you got a sweet deal given the mileage and the fact that it had a hardtop.

Welcome back!
