Been craving it since 1999
Hello people!
Ok, well my dream car (call me lame) has been the S2000 since 1999.
At the moment, I drive a Scion xB, with a few mods here and there. Nothing big though.
I'm really getting tired of the lack of power that the box has, and yesterday I was driving around, and saw a used s2k in that new dark blue sitting on the lot of a Toyota dealership.
I talked to the guy, it has 37k miles on it, and it's an 06. The interior is flawless, the top works fine, the only problems I see are that when driven, the gas gauge fluctuates a lot. Is that normal? Also, the clutch seems to slip really bad when you shift at redline....is that normal?
The Toyota people didn't know, so I figured I'd go to the people that know best.
And the car is priced out at $25k without tax and licence.
Is this a good deal? I'm not sure since I've never priced one out at a dealership before...
If you guys could help me out, that would be amazing
Thanks much.

Price isn't bad, I would try to get them around 23k - 24k. But it is drop top season, so that price will depend on how they are selling in your area.
On your questions, how long and how many miles did you drive it? Gas gauge should not fluctuate all that much. Unless you happened to drive it when it was between bars. But how many bars was it fluctuating? 1 bar? 3 or 4 bars. IF it is the latter, it shouldn't be doing that, at least mine doesn't. If it was just one or two, no biggie. taking hard turns and accelerating will josh around the gas in the tank. The clutch will slip in the 06 because of a sensor that they have that prevents you from pushing the car hard, (I don't remember what it is called, but you can remove it and there is a How-to on this site.)
Otherwise is sounds like a good deal. Just check the fluids and take it through a touch free car wash to ensure the top doesn't leak. Do that especially if it is out of warranty. That is my 02. Others will have more to add.

Hi Stephanie, I'd pass on that one. Check on autotrader for cars locally or look at the cars for sale section on here. Where are you located? Location's going to have a lot to do with price. Get an idea of what cars are going for in good condition in your area. That way you won't be overpaying when you find one that you like.
I've never heard of that gas tank issue and I wouldn't want to step into a car that already has mechanical/electronics problems. Clutch slipping isn't good either. That's a ~$1k job to fix. It could just be the CDV which is an annoying valve thing that prevents you from shifting fast at high RPMs I think. The newer S2000's have that.
The 2006 and up cars have a drive-by-wire throttle which a lot of people don't like. It's up to you, but I'd try driving a few different model years before making your choice. They all have a slightly different feel. That's also quite a few miles for the price. I picked up an 00 with 23k miles for $16.5k. Before I got mine, I was looking at some newer ones and for $25k you should be able to get one with under 15k miles that's been nicely taken care of. Good luck with your shopping.

I've seen my fuel gauge tick down (sometimes very quickly) but never back up. Fluttering back and forth sounds like some kind of quirky electrical issue. That blue (Laguna) didn't come out until 2006. Finally, price seems a bit high, considering the miles. If you are serious about getting an S, drive a few and poke around the site - tons of info here.
I didnt read through all the other posts, and only skimmed through yours (sorry my eyes hurt I work on the comp all day)... but Im buying an 04 with 20k miles on it for 17,9 that price seems a little high IMO

With practice though, you can learn to shift quickly without it being a problem.
BTW...buy the newest lowest milage car you can afford when it comes to used. If you can afford about $29k and can wait till November, you may see some real deals on brand new 2008s.
^^^
I concur with negcamber, but IMO the clutch slip is hardly worth noting... if you experienced "really bad" slippage, it's possible it's much more then the CDV ("really bad" can be a relative phrase, I know it's hard to tell because we didn't hear & feel it). I would pass on that one, I think it's a bit high anyway.
