[QUOTE=Jsmply,Mar 3 2006, 10:33 PM] Keep in mind in the 60-90k range you will probably have to put some money into the car rather soon after purchase.

Service history is important.
Buying it at a dealer gives you (a year?) warranty.
Can you save up more then the depreviation of a S2000 in 2 years?
If not you're waiting to buy a car that is just as old.

Good luck with your search.
I hope you find one!

I bought my '01 with 79K on it. I have only got it to 85K, but it runs like its brand new.

Just do a detailed inspection and make sure to drive it in town, on the highway to get an idea. Maintenence records would be a huge plus.

The best advice.

Save your money until you can afford one that is not old. Why spend money on a car that will need more money for repairs?

Will it kill you to wait a year or two to buy one?
The money you will save on the buying price, most of the time, you will have to spend it,fixing the car.
Wait a few more months, and buy a low mileage one.

So it is not a car that you should instill confidence in with higher miles just because it is a Honda, I wish it didn't have to be that way however I would assume that most s2000 owners take care of there cars, baby them even though driven hard I'd rather have a driven hard taken care of s2000 than a grandma driven neglected one. So all said and done should I not bother with a higher mileage one or should I find someone who has indeed taken care of it, stock s2000 and hope for the best? I think with a thorough lookover and a good feel for how the previous owner drove it, maintained it etc then I'd be alright.

I've had mine since new, 61k miles no issues whatsoever. I'd try and find a one owner car. Plenty of cars on these boards for sale that have had meticulous maintainance. I was recently offered $15k for my 01 for a trade on a new STI so I think the $13-15k range your shopping in is reasonable. I for one think Honda overbuilt these motors so I'd be shocked if well maintained examples didn't last 200k miles. There is at least one board member out there who has over 170k on his now.

Honestly I'd probably recommend you not getting the S2K if you're that strapped for cash. Dont' forget how expensive maintenance/replacements for the car are. For example, the tires that go every roughly 20-25k miles, you're going to be forking over a grand or so for those tires. Are you sure you can afford that??

Not to scare you away, but I'd have patience so you can really enjoy the car
