Default Checking out an 03, have a few questions

Hey guys...I've on this forum for a while, always lurking around, but without a s2k. I've came across a good deal and Im thinking of jumping in it but have a few questions. I know alot about Preludes and H22's but this will be my first s2k ownership experience.

The car is a 2003 s2k (yellow) with 120k. The original owner is selling it.
The motor is blown, valves are bent, 2 pistons are shot, it's basically going to need a complete rebuild or replacement.
Being that the car doesn't drive, I can't take it for a spin to make sure the transmission and rear-diff are both fine.
The interior and exterior are completely stock and are in excellent condition.

The owner is asking for $6kish...do you think this is a fair price?
Are ap1's and ap2's motor, transmission, and differentials all compatible? (ex: ap1 motor, ap2 tanny, either diff OR ap2 motor, ap1 tranny, either diff)
Are their any advantages or running a jdm motor over a usdm motor?
Are there any things I should look out for when I go to see this car again?
Where should I check for matching vins #? (My prelude had vins on everything, fenders, hood, trunk, bumper, doors....)

Any comment/suggestions are much appreciated, thanks

personally i think that 6k is too much. Like you stated the tranny and diff are totally unknowns... Just that fact that the motor is blown might be a sign of how much abuse the trans and diff had.

do these motors have a timng belt or timing chain?
Are these motors interference or non-interference? (ex: mis-shift or timing (belt/chain) snaps = bent valves)

Also I found a thread where a guy is using a f22 with an ap1 tranny...he didn't say if it was a direct bolt up or not though.

I believe we have a timing chain, do have an interference motor (misshift means toasted engine, which could be what happened to the one you are looking at) and most parts from an AP1 and AP2 are interchangeable, although some will require more work than others to make work properly.

I'm surprised no one has answered your questions regarding the drivetrain.

AP2 have updated gearbox and diff, and also the shafts are slightly different.
the AP2 gearbox has shorter 1,2,3,4 gears. It also has a clutch delay valve which helps to take good care of the diff in launches. and the AP2 diff is slightly more robust. the AP1 diff was more prone to breaking.
Since the shafts are slightly different, its not a direct bolt on to use AP2 diff and AP1 gearbox, for example.
Its best to use AP2 everything... or else, AP1 everything.

how much do you guys think the car is worth based on what I've listed. The exterior and interior is mint. Everything else is unknown but good according to the orignal owner.

any advice about the jdm motors vs rebuilding a usdm motor? Is one more compression or anything like that?

yes, USDM and EDM are 11.0 Compression ratio .. JDM are 11.7 compression ratio
