Default Child in passenger seat

Is there a switch to deactivate the airbag on S2000? I am in the market for one and would like to know about the safety feature on this car, air bags/front/side?, traction control, stability management system? etc.

Thanks,

John

The 06 has traction control, and front airbags. Previous models only have front airbags that cannot be disabled from the factory. The previous owner of our 00 had an airbag switch installed aftermarket. I can look up the name if you want.

I believe the manual itself says not to let children ride in the car.

Your requirements narrows down to 2006+ S2000s. Starting in 06 the car comes standard with child seat airbag disabling, traction control, and stability managment.

Check out the thread below:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=134950&st=0

This details the proper way of getting a factory-approved airbag switch in an 00-03 S2000. 04-05 are SOL.

Check out the thread in my signature (I think it's the one rwone is pointing to). It's long, but worth a read if you're interested.

The short answer is that unless you have a disable switch installed in a pre-MY06 S2000, you should not have children riding in the passenger seat.

A close friend of mine just had the OEM airbag deactivator switch installed in his 02 S in January. His son is only two months old, and his S2000 is his daily driver. Overall, the S2000 is a very safe car....but children in the passenger seat with no airbag switch is a bad idea.

He paid $600 for parts and install, but we had to drive a 16-hour round trip to Denver in one day to get it installed because a lot of Honda dealers do not want the liability issues that come a long with installing one of these. If you have any specific questions, PM him.... rx4speed is his s2ki.com user name.

Yes, the dealer issue will be the biggest pain. Here's the breakdown:

1. You need to get government permission to do the work. Funny thing is, this is the easiest step.
2. You must, after getting permission, get Honda to agree. They will provided you have the proper model year (00-03), the government form and sign some papers.
3. You prepay for the part, and wait for #4 to be solved
4. Just about every dealer will insist on NOT performing the work. Finding a dealer that will do this is the longest part of the process.
5. You MUST have a dealer perform the work - Honda will not ship the part to you no matter what your situation.
6. You need to sign some scary liability waiver forms.
7. You must have the switch uninstalled and returned to Honda before selling or disposing your vehicle
8. The whole process from application to install takes 6 months to a year.

If you want to know what is involved with the installation, check this link - I scanned in the Honda instructions from my install:
