Cool Common problem with AP1?

first off sorry for OT/repost/waste of e-space, i know somewhere in the s2ki blackhole already had all the answers but due to my lacking skill at the interweb i failed to discover them.

story:

picking up a used s2000 within this month(hopefully), after retiring my boosted honda accord from track abuse. My budget only limits me to Ap1, before i head out to check out what they got in the used lot i have the following questions for all the guru at s2ki. I am trying not to get the first year model with the plastic back, so it would limite me to 01-03

if the some of the question are already covered and you don't feel like typing all over again, please inlcude a link to the particular page.

1)what is the tipical compression number on ap1, i know the number for stock but what are some of you guys's number?

2)how to spot a failing/dying rear diff.? what other way to distinguish the problem other than the whining sounds?

3)what is some of the common problem of the gear box(beside 2nd gear hard to engage when cold)

4)rust spot?

5)other common problem?

6)what type of streetable clutch you guys recommend? I am looking for something streeable and yet double duty as my track whore(power train mod. will be stockish, no blower). Perhaps a diy page with picture?

again, thank you all for taking your time to read all my concern, please feel free to add other important stuff that i miss.

and if you have a ap1 for sale in SOCAL, don't be shy to hit me up...lol

Most common problem with the AP-1,is usually a bad connection, between the seat and the steering wheel.

Check cars for sale on this site, Library, Under the Hood, and Faq's under racing & compitition. Be prepared to do your homework and you will find your answers. The Plastic window is lighter and provides more rear view visibilty and was also on most 2001's BTW.

Increasing whine with increasing speed. Clicking sound when moving or turning sharply. Lots of metal content on the drain magnet, speckles of metal in the fluid, lumpy fluid.

ACT disc with ACT HD PP. DIY clutch change:

1) ........................ Don't know.

You better eliminate MY'01 also. IMO, this plastic window is a non-issue. It's only due to owner neglect that these become un-desirable.

As for your other questions, again, IMO, they are non-issues. I have a MY'00 and have never had any problems with my tranny. 2nd gear has never been a problem getting in or out.

i know i am the weakest link

i notice they are larger too, but unless i can find a mint example of the plastic rear, i want a glass back.(but again, it's a hit or miss situation if shopping for used car on a tight budget )

on the other hand, is there any lowprice alternative to swap out the plastic for a glass window in the rear? something that doesn't require buying half of the top and redrilling everything?

thanks for the response and BUMP for compression number

I don't think so. If it's out there, we would have heard about this by now.

Just an FYI.

00-01 have the plastic rear window. 02 and up have the glass rear window. 00-03 are AP1s and 04 and up are AP2s.

Other than that, Good Luck with your search.

i did a search on an ap1 service manual.

form the "Specifications Index" "Standards and Service Limits" "Cylinder Head/Valve Train-Section 6" page 2-2
MEASUREMENT = "250rpm normal" STANDARD (16.0, 228)
MEASUREMENT = "wide open throttle minimum" STANDARD (9.5,135)
MEASUREMENT = "max variation" STANDARD (2.0,28)

the units of measure are (kgf/cm2, psi) that is to say the 250rpm is 228psi

honda measurements seem dynamic, can they compare to a static measurement?
ever try a $50.00 dyno run instead.
