Default Contemplation of an S2000

Hi, my name's Sean, I am 16 years old. I have been very interested in cars ever since I was young. My brother has a 2006 Mustang GT, which is nice, but I was thinking about getting something along the lines of an S2000, or Evo. Both are cool cars, but I need some resources on the S2000. In August when I turn 17, I will get my car, as my brother did when he turned 17. He races his Mustang, and he has got me interested in tuning. I have been looking at the comptech website, and my friend has told me that the comptech supercharger is the best way to go for racing on the streets. I am currently saving up money for parts, I just need some direction to basic engine specs, car part manufacturers, etc. for the S2000. Thanks!

Welcome Sean!

This forum, and specifically a lot of the FAQs found at the top of the forums, will be your best friend if you are looking to soak up knowledge about the S2000. You will find that the people here are friendly and very knowledgeable. I would recommend lurking here for awhile and just trying to pick up everything you can. I was a little bit overwhelmed at first with all the information there is to know about the S2k, but after hanging around these forums for a couple of months, I felt like I picked up a lot of information really quickly.

If you just want to know the basic info, here is a short Wikipedia article that is very helpful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S2000

Yeah what you need is a high-powered roadster for your limited experience. The S2000 would fit that requirement very well. Also, I really do feel that a supercharger would help you in street races... and that's very important because street racing earns you much credit around here and well... on the streets.

Why don't you do yourself a favor, get that s2000 and your comptech supercharger and drive straight to the authorities... oh you may as well kill a few innocent people along the way as well.

Well what Calbear said was helpful, but an instant contradiction makes me wonder if he was actually being truthful. I don't like to try and put people I don't know down. I find it to be bad in sport, and in general. You are most likely thinking about the fast and the furious version of street racing. Out here we don't race for money or anything other than fun. We mostly do pulls, and the occasional highway where no one drives at night. But feel free to call me a murderer, because from a stereotypical standpoint, a streetracer is a trashy person who endangers others lives.

I am simply speaking on the basis that you are young, inexperienced, and motivated by street racing. 40% of teen deaths are attributed to accidents... not DRUGS, not ALCOHOL, not MURDER.

Honda financial has some excellent deals on Accords right now. You may want to check them out.

Not trying to crush your dreams or anything, just want to make sure you drive safe.

Not a lot of people drive a high-powered sports car for their first car. I don't want to say that you are a bad driver or anything, but you can't deny that you are inexperienced. When I think about how I drove when I first got my license, I'm glad I didn't have anything more powerful than a Toyota Camry. I know I did a lot of growing up from age 16 to 21, and it definitely takes a certain level of maturity and responsibility to own an S2000.

We're not saying you don't have it, but when the first thing you ask about in regards to the S2000 is how you can supercharge it so that you can street race, we really have to wonder.

He's right... honestly I don't mean to be mean or rude to a new member, but what I say is compelling. I was your age too, and just like CalBear, I still wonder how I didn't end up killing myself or others with the way I drove.

If you really want to be fast or become a good driver you need to attend some driving schools and spend some time at a road course or auto-x. It's not the car that makes the driver, it's the other way around.

This I know, my current car is a volvo S80 with around 210(turbo stock) HP it's in NO way a racecar, but It's not like I am JUST getting my first car, I've been driving for about a year and a half now. And I might have been alittle blunt and straight forward for talking about a supercharger, but It's my plan for the FUTURE. My mistake for saying street racing, because it's not really that around here. It's motly just show off, which I'm fine with.

Honestly man I would recommend the s2000. Its a great and very fun car.

if your interested in racing then I would HIGHLY recommend taking some Race Course Training on an actual race track. It would be an invaluable life lesson and you would learn ALOT and how to Really race a Real car.

Then autoX would be a great thing to do to refine your driving skills, which is totally legal and safe. Plus you would get the total satisfaction of whipping your brother senseless with your hot light roadster with half the tq.

If you really want to learn to be a great driver the streets are not the place to do it. Your young so you have an excellent opportunity to learn and take advantage of it and become an awsome driver. Honestly I cant think of anything more enjoyable than teasing your brother into taking it to the local Road Course and really laying the smackdown on his big v8.

And on the otherside of the coin. The S2000 is not a car you can just hop into and take balls to the wall without it killing you in the process. If your inexperianced the S2000 is the LAST car you should buy, especially if you plan on streetracing it with lots of power from a S/C. The S2000 WILL get away from you, especially since the AP1 has a tendacy for snap-oversteer which can spell disaster for newbie driver....but with some seat time with a trained professional you can really use the S2000 as a surgical weapon on the mountain roads and on the track.

if your looking for a 1/4 street race car for overall being stupid and raising hell. Then buy a mustang. The s2000 is not for you.

+1, I'd highly recommend the car, but at your own risk. When I turned 16, I bought a '97 GSX and did the basic bolt-on's, and it took me awhile to get used too. Then I bought a turbo VW and spent too much money making it quick, and that was easier to get used too, then. I bought an S2000 a few Month's before my Freshmen year of College, and 6 Month's later, I am still not fully comfortable with the car. It is not a good first sports car, it's tricky, and very touchy. You really need to know the limits of what it can do in order to take it to it's limits.

And please, I don't care if it's for money, fun, etc. Street racing is dangerous, even when noone else is around but another car beside you, it will ALWAYS put you in danger.

So please, be careful.
