After $8k down, you're still paying $300/month for 7 years?

That's about $33k--and you still got raped.

Well i was in your shoes when i got my S2 i had 10k cash I ended up getting my 06 in dec of 06 with 8200 miles 24700 Out the door my loan was 14700 with 5.1 interest for 60 months and i pay 278.50 a month

So remeber your may not get my interest rate and a 15k loan still ran 278.50 you might hit your goal with a 12k loan if you put 15 you might get an 06 0r 07. but I would get 05 unless you think you need VSA

I don't know anything about racelogic but you could ask how much it costs, and how much to install, then put that against the differance in price from 05 to 06. If it is close then you might as well get the newer car.

04/05's go for 15-18k.. dont be afraid to go in there and haggle.. they will work with you on price.. if not.. you get a loan for the 3-5k difference on what you want to get, and do a 2 or 3 year loan.. and have your payments belown 250 easy

remember, dealerships are struggling. it took me almost a year to find my yellow 2002 s2000 with no mods other then J's racing exhaust. take your time man,i almost bought a impreza in a frustrated rush. the right deal may just fall into your hands.
