Drove my first S2000 two days ago. Wow!
Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself, my handle is crozewski. I am currently an owner of a '07 Fit Sport, and '96 Miata.
Two days ago I drove my first S2000. I have had my eye on an S2000 for a long time now, and the other day was my first shot at driving one. I have off from work for a few weeks and decided to call up the local Honda dealership, Garden State Honda. I asked them if I could come by for a look at the S2000 and they said sure. When I got there I was met by Dave Faccone, a great guy. After a little talking we were able to go out for a drive in a gorgeous white S2000.
It was lightly snowing on and off during the day so the roads were wet from the melted snow. I took it easy while the car warmed up. After the engine was good and warm I got on the gas. The car was a pure dream even in the wet. The seats, shifting, handling, and high reving of the motor were out of this world. My favorite bits about the car are its impeccable balance and the directness of the steering.
We dropped the car back at the lot and spoke a bit about pricing at the dealership. All and all this was a fantastic experience.
I have a few other cars to test drive (miata, rx-8, 350z, and a few others) yet but have my eye on an S2000. I think the smartest bet is to pick up a gently, unmodified S2000. Any tips on what to look for? Is there a good/bad year these cars were made? What's about right to pay?
Thanks and I look forward to talking to you all.

You should be able to get an excellent deal on an s2k these days. We've seen a few 06-07 with under 15k miles going for $20-22k. There have been some posts about new 08's going for $26-27k.
A local friend just picked up an 05 w/30k and a hardtop for $17.5k from a dealer. The hardtop is worth about $2k.
If you are buying used, always buy the newest lowest mileage car you can afford.

glad you got the spirit of the car on a test drive
play hardball with price, there are great prices used out there and with the new Z and how cars are selling in general you should kill. the salesman should be happy to even get a sports car off the lot

It's funny you mention that because the sales guy was saying that he has worked at that dealership for a solid year and has never seen an S2000 sold.
I don't think I am going to buy brandy new, probably an 05-7 model. Anything to look out for? Common failures on this car?

There were several 2005s under 24k miles in Socal listed for sale for around $16.5k. CPOs can be had for about $18k, I believe. There are three more days to go for the Honda Financial promo on CPO cars. 2.9% APR, I believe. Search autotrader. There're a lot of deals on there.
