Excellent question, but definitely nothing to be alarmed about. And, no, there are no recalls or anything regarding the oil consumption. The only very serious recall on pre-MY03 cars is the spark plug replacement.

So, regarding the oil... The way Honda manufactured the MY00 - MY03 engine blocks left enough irregularities in the surface of the cylinder walls to cause some oil burn. Later engines were bored differently, as I understand it, and don't burn nearly as much oil (though there's still some reported).

Bottom line is that you will find a varying amount of oil burn between fill-ups. You might burn absolutely nothing in 1000 miles, or you might be close to a quart down. In my own case, I have not found any real pattern. I daily-drive my car, and always use the entire rev range.

 

Chazmo - Thanks for the reply. I love honda. Even it they have issues, its nothing to be alarmed about. My Evo on the other hand is quite odd - 750 miles on her and my windshield broke, antenna base broke off and the vortex generator cracked and broke. Maybe, I should have got a new S2k instead. I hope to sell my Evo off and get an used s2k which I can beat on at the track confidently!
