Default Finally get to join S2KI

Hello all,

I have spent the majority of the last 5 years lusting after S2000 ownership and have "shopped" dealerships and craigslist during that time. I got the bug pretty bad after owning the last year of the Prelude with the baby brother Vtec.

Finally found one on CL I couldn't live without! 2000 New Formula Red with AP2 wheels, clean title, and only 35k miles! This thing was a garage queen its whole life and drives like it's brand new.

I look forward to all of your feedback and forum help. I plan on keeping her bone stock (maybe some Wet Okole seat covers and a Rick's Leather console cover for that goofy carpet) and selling her to one of you guys in a few years when my wife demands a baby (or two). Until then, she lives in my garage and will continue to be loved!

Nice to finally stop lurking!

Andrew

Thanks Levi! The S also came with the stock AP1 wheels in great shape with virtually new tires. Should I post them for someone looking to pick up a fresh set of AP1's or keep them to complete the OEM look on a future sale?

That's up to you, when I upgraded to 17" wheeIs I sold my 16" OEM's. (then again I wasn't planning on selling the car anytime soon and didn't feel like storing them for who knows how long)

I plan on keeping her bone stock
Sure you will! I planned on this with my new-to-me 2006 AP2 model almost exactly two years ago! First thing was JDM clear side lights as orange is glaring on my silver car.

I've made several subtle changes to my car and you'll be tempted to do the same. All the changes I've made are completely reversible by me or the next owner. The car still looks stock. Exhaust and intake are all under the hood or car.

If you have the storage space keep the AP1 wheels. They'll be valuable in a few years when the surviving cars gain collector status either on this car when you decide to sell it or for someone else.

Have fun with the car. Remember the early cars are prone to snap oversteer (a buddy put his "in the cattails" his first couple of months) but there are solutions (255 rear tires will help) and experience will be the best solution. The UK guys are wrecking theirs coming out of round-abouts in VTEC and hitting diesel spills. We seem to have less diesel spills so we wreck ours on icy bridges (when we shouldn't be driving them anyway).

Do your own maintenance, it's easy. Hydraulics and coolant are time, not mileage intervals. Both were due for replacement years ago. Lubricants are mileage. Gearbox and differential are items few of us have ever worried about, but they need attention as well as the engine. Typical guy here replaces them all well before the need. Pure synthetics are only a couple bucks more. Annual change works fine for me as I run less than 6,000 miles every summer. Starting my 3d summer now.

Thanks Chuck and Mike, I will read through that link and start checking the boxes. I have a full binder of service records, so I should be able to tell if the routine stuff has been serviced for time (not mileage). I am not too worried about ice bridges here in Oregon as we have a 4runner for rainy days and winter driving.

Three Subarus and an Expedition handle our winter chores. My S2000 goes in storage about 1 November and comes out at Easter. It's a summer-only car. If we need to take a crowd we can carry eight (8) in the Expedition or at least four in any of the Subarus. Family doesn't mean ya gotta get rid of the S2000, just gotta find a place for it in the winter. It goes in the garage during the season. Lesser cars go in the driveway.

If you have maintenance records you're ahead of the game. Mostly done with metric hand tools.
