Default Finally! It's been a long wait...

I've wanted an S2000 ever since I saw the SSM concept in the late '90's. Twelve years later, there is finally an intersection between its depreciation and my income, and I was able to take delivery today!

It's a 2002 Berlina Black on black with 127k miles. I was a little hesitant to buy a car with such high miles, but with proper maintenance it sounds like people have had good luck with these running to 200k+. It's completely stock, except for Koni something-or-other rear shocks (supposedly similar to OEM), and I plan to keep it that way. Maybe wheels/tires and suspension further down the road if I start tracking it often.

I bought it locally in Pittsburgh and am looking forward to meeting other S2k owners in the area. It really is a dream come true!

One of my biggest worries right now is parking the S outside - has anyone noticed any deterioration of their paint/top? I won't be driving it very often and have considered a car cover, but I don't have time to wash it every time I park it. I know there are a few threads on it, but I'd like to hear updated experiences.

One of my license plate tabs is rusted so badly that the screw won't come out. I've resorted to ghetto-taping it to the wind deflector for now until I can get some solvent.

Nice! I was in the same boat as you as far as wanting one for a long time. Looks from the position of the driver's seat that you must be fairly short? lol

Ha, yeah I'm 5'6". I guess that would be an advantage should I ever (god forbid) roll it. I understand what people mean when they say it fits like a glove.

welcome,
I just wanted to mention on your question about keeping the S outside that more importantly than your paint, I had my Ap1 soft top sliced open and my seats stolen while parked outside and I know that has happened to many s2000 owners....I lived in an apartment complex, and in a town that's notorious for Honda theft so if you have a driveway it should be somewhat safer...just something to keep in mind though.

Congrats! I wanted mine at the same time you did and got it last year after 11 years of waiting! I swear I daydreamed about it every single day and it really is a dream come true now and so special to me to have this car.

Enjoy it and best of luck to you.

Edit: Are you a Pens fan? I'm from NY, but I love the Penguins.

Are the seats still that valuable? I live in an area with a lot of college students, which also means campus police patrols the area frequently to bust house parties. Still, I park on the street since I don't have a driveway. It's one of the nicer areas of Pittsburgh, but maybe I should more seriously consider seat and wheel locks.

@Si - I don't really follow sports, though I'll cheer for Pittsburgh teams when they're in the finals =P I'm originally from Boston, but I keep that on the dl...

If you look around, the seats go for between $450 to $1,000 (even more on ebay) depending on the condition. I think thieves know that the seats are easy to steal (with soft top) and easy to sell. I would get the seat locks just to avoid that headache if you are parking it on the street, you never know. I rarely left my ap1 outside the garage but one of the few times I did, my seats were stolen.
