Finally, My First S2000!
Hey all,
Partly an introduction and partly a post about my first S2k! My name is Peter and I live in Los Angeles. I've wanted an S2000 for more years than I can remember. Been driving my trusted '05 CR-V for a decade, put 125,000 miles on it and I decided I no longer had a need to haul large pieces of gear or furniture and I never, ever wanted to help another soul move.
So I got serious about searching this summer, and spent a few months doing research and looking at potential cars. Let me tell you, it was eye-opening: I couldn't believe how many 2000s out there are either in pristine shape, or horribly treated and ruined. I saw cars with bad body work (asymmetrical gaps on panels, etc,) center consoles with their finish worn off by shifting, horribly misaligned cars, ripped tops, ripped seats, low quality aftermarket mods, etc.
My stipulations: I wanted an AP2, '06 or later, bone stock, under 30,000 miles, clean title, two owners or less and as mint as I could find.
After two months of rigorous searching nationwide, paying mechanics for PPIs on three different cars in as many states, getting quotes on shipping, etc., I got lucky. I found this beauty near Phoenix, not terribly far away from my hometown of Los Angeles. 2006, Rio Yellow Pearl, 26,500 miles and in superb condition. Only two owners, and both babied it as a weekender.
The seller was so patient with me and even met me outside of Indio for the sale. Got all keys, manuals, title, maintenance records, extra oil, a car cover and the black vinyl/rubbery cover for the folded top when it's down. Smog check passed and got it registered at DMV with no trouble, and now I'm just waiting for plates (because the seller was in AZ, his state laws required that he surrender his plates to his DMV.) I've been taking short daily drives here and there to familiarize myself, and though I know most of you on here have had similar experiences... i don't know how to put it into words. It's better than I expected it to be, even though I'd test-driven a few in years past. It never fails to put a smile on my face, and it's hard to be sitting at home and not find an excuse to get into it even for a trip to the store.
These images aren't fancy.... they're just of the car sitting in my grocery store parking lot, because that was my first drive and the first time I stepped out of it and looked back. Snapped these with an iPhone camera.
What else can I say? I'm very, very happy and looking forward to contributing to this community!

No doubt, Cody Red! I never believed in my life I'd own a yellow car, and I didn't have too much of a choice with this search... but the more I looked at it, the more I realized this particular shade of yellow suits this car more than most. It's really, really pretty.
My dream was to get a berlina black and install new brick or taupe leather seat upholstery. This is the next best thing.
How does the red interior go with your Rio?
Cheers,
Peter
