Former owner now an owner again
I am the former owner of a 2003 Silverstone with red interior, which I bought new back in 2003. I have owned many sports and high performance vehicles, including C5 and C6 Z06s, but the S2000 is a special car to me. I recently started to look for another AP1 and found a clean, stock 2003 in spa yellow with 28k miles nearby. The car is in great shape and all stock. It had a few common S2000 problems like the weak gas cap seal and loose lighter plug, which I fixed. I changed all fluids, filters and got it aligned to factory spec. It is now good as new and runs as I remember my old 2003, which means it screams!
I still have old copies of Car and Driver and Automobile from 2003, comparing the S2000 against 350Z roadster, Boxster, Audi TT, and Z4. The S2000 was rated best, and I think we all understand why. Interesting to read those reviews now, considering how the competition has changed or disappeared. There is still no car produced that is scalpel sharp like the S2000. I think values of clean stock S2000s will remain stable unless and until somebody makes a car that replaces it in both spirit and function. It would need to come from a value manufacturer though, not a premium brand like BMW or Porsche. Honda or Toyota could make a worthy successor, but I'm not sure they will.
