Default Former RX-7 owner with question

Hi all, I've been seriously thinking about picking up an 02 S2000 but just wondering if any of you have driven an FD, how the performance compares between the two cars. I'm looking for something as fun as an FD and my current vehicle is not doing it for me.

i owned an fd which i sold last august, speed wise the s2k is considerablly slower, but the S is no slouch and is plenty powerful enough to be lots of fun. in terms of handling you wont be dissapointed at all, in terms of sheer grip the rx7 probably may outdo the S just slightly, but the S is a much lighter faster responding car than the fd. the only thing i miss at all is the feel of the turbo power. but overall i enjoy the S much more than the fd, going for a fun drive in the fd exhausts you, 1/2 an hour of twistys and fd tires you out from having to be so worried about keeping it under control and the steering feel is pretty heavy, where the S i can drive for hours and the smile never leaves my face.

factory for factory power is not all that different, torque on the fd is much more but acceleration wise the s might have an advantage, im talking factory... mod wise the rxy is an exhaust and boost controller away from plenty more power, modding an s all motor wise is expensive but boost via s/c or turbo are really good mods.................get an s u wont be dissapointed!

I have to say I miss the acceleration of the FD from 3K RPM to red line. I miss the feeling when the turbo kick in... but in return I don't miss being worry all the times when the motor gonna blow or what else it gonna break today.
In my opinion the FD is faster and the S is more enjoyable to drive.

I use to drive my friends 93 FD all the time. It had some minor upgrades to bring the whp over 300 or so. It was fun feeling the turbo pull and the torque putting you back in the seat. I didn't like the overall cheap feeling of the car though inside and out. I like the S2000 in all other sides. The good quility and the handling.

i bought mine becuase i was tired of fixing the sequential problems and worrying about a coolant seal letting go. speed wise you will miss the rx7 from day one. the s just doesnt have the torque. The turns feel almost the same, but the S is a little more twitchy. I'd say fun factor is near same. But beware the motor is like jekyll and hyde. Under 6000rpm, its a lil better than and avg car, after 6000, it feels like rotary and gets goin. From my standpoint its all or nothing.

I think everyone knows about the reliability so I wont touch on that. But i will say I miss opening the hood and spinning the wrench on my last 7 fixing the new "problem of the month". Only time I open the hood on the S is for an oil change. I had an FD(94 MB) and 2 FC's, so i've been around rotaries for a lil bit. I do miss the 7, but it just didnt fit in with me running a round town to work/skool/home/etc. I'll def. get another 7, but just not now, especially with the gas prices.

Well I have a daily beater, just don't know if I want to get another FD and drive it on weekends, or get an S2000 for daily use. It was fun looking foward to driving the FD on the weekends, never had any real issues with the car, but since I'm not that mechanically inclined yet, I'd have to find a good mechanic close by, which I have not found yet. I guess I'll just have to test drive an S2000 and then drive an FD again and make a choice. Thanks for suggestions guys
