Default Getting First Car Soon.

I'm going to be 16 soon, and I'm wanting to get an s2000. My parents are going to pay half, and i'll pay the other half. I have some concerns though.

How safe is the s2000, mainly in the event of rolling over.

Should i consider saving up for a roll bar? Also, i know that the s2000 is a sports car, and a fast one at that, but how bad is insurance? I'm about to apply for a job, but how much will it cost me each month?

Sorry about all of the questions.

S2000 is not a fast car...which also doesn't mean it's a good first car. Rollbar isn't good unless you plan on wearing a helmet when you drive. Insurance...if you can even get your own is going to be $$$....get the job first. I think a lot of us would agree that if we got S2000s as first cars...probably might not be here to tell you about it...

Depends all on the person. My first car was my S2000. No accidents but a bunch of tickets

Unless u have a great paying job like I had, u won't be able to afford insurance, tickets, car payments; etc.

IMHO get something cheaper and more useful. It'd annoyed the shit outta me not to be able to drive around friends in college.

I'll reiterate what the others have said...get the job first and see what your financial situation is. The S is very reliable so maintenance costs are relatively low. Get a couple insurance quotes and if possible, stay on your parents' insurance. I wholeheartedly agree with s.hasan about driving friends around in college - those trips will be among your best memories!

The S is a safe car, and there's a thread here of crashed s2k's. But if you're already thinking about the possibility of rolling your car, I think you're in the wrong mindset. That being said, the S can be a great learning experience as long as you approach your limits slowly and safely. Good luck, and read the forums!

Welcome. I seriously would re-consider getting an s2000 as a first car.

I will be waiting for the pics to show up in the wrecked s2000 thread. I hope not to see them there but stats are definitely against you. I agree with others. Have you looked at the cost of owning one of these? Have you gotten an insurance quote? Do you have a job? Whats your price range for this car? Do you have cash to put towards this?

I don't actually expect you to listen to anyone on here (I know I wouldn't have if I could have afforded one of these cars at 16) but you really need to learn about the car you are going to buy.
