Good Deal? I'm looking to pick up a brand new 2005
First post here... looking for some guidance on buying a brand new 2005 s2000 at a local dealer.
The car has been sitting in the showroom since the '05 model appeared. It has about 65 miles on the odometer. I took it for a test drive today and fell in love. (other cars i've test driven include 350z and g35, also drove an 01 M3... I currently own an s14 240sx)
When it came to talking financials, the sales guy came back from the GM's office with a price of 29,889 + tax + title.
I'll come right out and ask the question... is this a good deal?
I'm ready to sign the papers after talking with insurance, but i'm not sure if I want to make a counter offer or accept their asking price.
Please Advise!

You can get an 06 for that!
If you took that car on a test drive and went to another dealer and made like you wanted to trade it in for an '06, what do you think they'd give you for it? It's a one year old car. That's how any dealer would treat it if the tables were turned. To be fair, I guess you could go someplace 1/2 way between black book on a one year old S2000 and what they are asking. If they won't budge, why on earth wouldn't you go and do the same deal on a brand new '06. You'll have one whole year before the car is one year old. With this one, the second you drive it off the lot, you've began the 2nd year of depreciation.
First, go to another dealer to see what kind of deal you can do for an '06. This will confirm what has been told to you here. It may very well be that in your area, dealers are not very flexible on '06 pricing.
You don't indicate where you live, so what we've said here may not apply to your city. Some locations simply don't cut deals on S2000s. However, if you can get an '06 for that kind of money, then why not? If you have your heart set on that '05, then call up the dealer and say you can get an '06 for such & such and unless they are willing to reduce the price significantly, you will go sign a deal at another dealership for an '06. They'll say that they can sell you an '06 for that. You say that you feel some loyalty to the other dealer who gave you the quote for an '06. You are dealing with them ONLY for the '05.
