First post from a new S2K owner. My dad had two cars: an '04 S2K (original owner) with about 69K and a 2019 AMG E 63 S wagon. He and I did the Porsche Travel Experience together in the fall of 2018, driving from San Francisco down to LA via the PCH. Dad was convinced he wanted a 911 or an Aston Martin to replace his S2K. On that trip, during the week together in the car, I convinced him to instead replace his MDX with an even better road superiority car: the AMG. I asked why he'd get rid of one of the best "driving" cars ever produced? Unfortunately I lost him to kidney cancer in late January, but I knew instantly which car of his I should take over! I found the S2K in his garage on a trickle-charger, so I don't think it got much love once the M-B twin-turbo V-8 came into his life! I shipped the S2K coast-to-coast and replaced my heavily-modified '05 Mazdaspeed Miata, which I had spent years building. I was a tad conflicted, but it literally only took moving the S2K 5-feet into my backyard upon arrival to instantly recognize it was easily much more car than the Miata was (although the S2K is a touch slower LOL). No regrets! If any locals like to wrench, hit me and my lift up!
During the only evening of overlap between the S2K and the 'Speed I shot a few pics.
Yes, welcome. Are we really just not going to talk about the E36?
Probably not a good idea to get me started LOL. For some reason the e36 M3 has always been my "dream car," even though it came out shortly after college (most dream cars seem to be teenage dreams with posters on the wall etc.). Anyway, it's the 5-speed sedan, which is my favorite version. I've had that one in the photo since 2012. Dad and I bought the first one I had together and campaigned it in the 2005 One Lap of America, another longtime dream. That got sold and I built a SpecE30 race car back when you could buy awesome e30's for peanuts. My how times have changed! I didn't mention the M3/4/5 because it's not topless like the S2K and MSM....
The E36 is kind of the experiential sweet spot but a well-sorted E30 is on my list of cars I still need to drive at least once. I liked but didn’t love the only E46 M3 I’ve ever driven.
I saw an S54-swapped E30 once and that thing still haunts my dreams...
A local friend has a S54-swapped e36 M3 sedan that's glorious. It revs like a S2K but actually has torque (and that wonderful blocky 90's aesthetic)! The e30 is great, kinda like a Miata with a hardtop: raw but fun.
