Default Hello!

Hello, my name is John. I'm planning on getting a Honda S2000 soon once I get my license which will be shortly after I turn 18 on September 28. Hoping to meet new friends and gain more knowledge on modifications before I get my Honda S2000. :-)

Welcome Smiley...

Just be warned that the s2k is not a very forgiving car for the inexperienced driver. It has one of the highest insurance rates partially due to the high number of single car accidents...ie, the driver lost control and hit something.

If you do get one, you should invest in some high performance driving schools or start autoxing so that you can safely learn the limits of the car.

Thank you all for replying :-)

Today I went to take a look at the Honda S2000, Nissan 350z, and BMW 135i with my dad. My dad doesn't want me getting a Honda S2000, because it's a convertible. I tried to convince him by saying I was planning on purchasing a Cusco 4 Point Roll Cage and a Mugen Hardtop, but I don't think he even bothered listening. spdemon12384 advised me to only buy an AP2 and not an AP1, because '06+ has traction control and I'm going to be a new driver. I completely agree with him. I do believe my dad would let me get a Honda S2000 if I could find one for around $17,000. By doing this, I won't be able to afford an AP2. What are all your opinions on my situation? Should I not buy a Honda S2000 unless I can purchase an AP2?

I also want you all to know that I'm not planning on driving recklessly. In response to what you said, negcamber, I will try to invest a high performance driving school. I'm pretty sure a couple friends of mine already do so I will probably be joining them.

I would recommend that you find something else until you have more experience if you can

^^^Totally Agree with you.

Welcome to the forums

For inexperience driver it's best to get your feet wet before jumping in because if you can't swim you'll drown.

When I had mine I almost bite the dust trying to exit the freeway, I hit a puddle and of course I spun out luckily it was 2am in the morning so there wasn't any cars around, if it happen during rush hour traffic/etc, I'd be another statistic.

If you can't swing the MY06+ S2K, why not try a Miata? Those are actually fun DDers that you can take on the track plus they are really cheap & easy to fix up. I have one myself when I sold my S2K, not to mention it gets great gas mileage and insurance is cheap on it (21yrs, btw). A Mazdaspeed Miata you can find under 17k.

Good Luck & Remember Drive Safely
Thank you for welcoming me to the forum. :-)

In response to your suggestion on the Miata, I'm not the bigget fan. :-z My dad has no problem spending a l'il more if I was to buy a car such as an Infiniti G35 Coupe or a Mini Cooper S. Pretty much something that is not a convertible. Thank you for the great advice though! I completely see what you're saying on why a Miata would be a more practical car. :-)
