Default Hello from IL

Hi

I have been reading various things on this site for a few months now as I am interested in purchasing a s2k. I have used various sales sites including this one, and have come across some interesting "for sales".

Question...I am looking for something that isn't tracked but taken care of, mileage is not too much of an issue but....is there any way to tell if a car has been tracked, (despite having roll bars)?

Little worried that a car might have been beat on.

Welcome.

Check out the link in my signature.

I would feel safe purcashing from a fellow racer. Racers usually tend to take car of their cars and put a lot of money and time into maitenace. They are usually more knowledage than just some 'mid life crisis' person.

I am a racer by the way

Thanks Themikewoo. I have see this one, very good resource.

The AP1 i'm considering is priced good, but has roll bars and the owner claims that he tried it on the track once. He doesn't know if the previous owners put it on. Also he claims that the valve retainers are ok but didn't show me any proof. Just wondering what other evidence I can look for.

"The previous owner might have but I didn't ask him when I bought it" verses "I don't know who put them on."
Those two statements give you the same information but one is reassuring whereas the other sounds shady.

There is only one was to check the valve retainers and that is to actually take them off. Some more experienced people on here might be able to just by looking at them but I cannot. How does he know they are ok? Does he know that AP1 F20 motors are they motors that are prone to retainer cracking? If he doesn't then I would assume he has never taken off the valve cover to check or replace and he would be just feeding you a line to try and get you to buy the car.

I am embracing my mid-life crisis with my new S2K! And thanks to these forums soon I will have knowledge about all those thingamabobs or widgets under the watchamacallit? Oh, yeah, under the hood!
