I just got a 2003 s2k with 73,000 miles on it. It runs great but I think the motor sounds a bit off, I went to Honda and they said it sounded fine. I think I will check the valve clearances sometime soon.

Also if your worried about your engine do a compression/leak down test. Which honestly should have been done before you purchased the car.

 

I did it was about 220 - 230 across the board, it accelerates well and is smooth just seems like there is a tapping @ around 2000 - 3000 rpm you can't hear it after that. maybe its just a bolt from the exhaust or something. Im in Deltona Fl.

 

 

Nice pick up...it could be the valves as you mentioned and an adjustment might fix your problem (if there is one).

So today I replaced 16 valve retainers and 32 keepers because I was worried about them being damaged, everyone says they break eventually. I am the 4th owner of this car it has 73,000 miles has been repoed one time and the man I bought it from said he miss shifted it one time (he sold this car to me because he bought a corvette). all 16 were in perfect shape no damage at all, I changed them out with Honda parts anyways.
