Default Hey everyone

Hey all,

I've been lurking around these forums for a good 6 months or so now, so it's about time that I actually sign up and start posting methinks .

Just a little bit about myself: I'm 16 years old, so just got my license not too long ago. I used to be in love with the Evos, but after coming over to this forum I've realized what a purist sports car the S2000 is in comparison... Anyway I'm *hoping* to get an S2k for my first "real" car in the summer. Yeah, I know I'm going to be flamed to oblivion for this, but I've sustained A's throughout school and my parents have decided to reward me for it now by helping me with the purchase of the car (yeah, I'll be paying for a portion of it too).

Anyway, hope to become a part of the community here, it seems like a great forum. For now I'm stuck driving the s2k in my sig haha... hopefully that will change eventually.

Welcome!

Set your sites on an MY06 or newer. They come with stability control. I'm sure you've read that the s2k is not a forgiving car to inexperienced drivers...especially the MY00-03 cars.

If you have a decent car available now, start autocrossing so that you can learn car control in a safe environment. You will need your parents to sign a waiver to allow you to participate. Look at scca.org to find events near you. And no matter what, once you get the s2k get involved in autoxing immediately. The skills you learn there will probably save your life at some point...it certainly has saved me countless times.

Otherwise, see if you can afford it, see if you can take some driver ed courses from Skip Barber or something similar.

Yeah, we're looking at AP2's for sure (probably 07 or possibly new).

I did 4 or 5 years of competitive karting when I was younger, so I do have some background in car control (even though I know the transition of mass in a real car is a lot harder to handle than in a kart). I've also done the MasterDrive skills course..

Thanks for the AutoX info though, I'll look into that.

Good to hear...you should be fine. The s2k will snap oversteer about as easily as a kart, but with all that extra mass it doesn't stop rotating like a kart.

A buddy of mine just put his MY07 into the bushes last week. He'd turned the VSA off when doing some aggressive driving on the way to an s2k meet. The suspension was ripped off the car when he jumped the sidewalk curb.
