Wow, a young'n. Lucky for you to be such a young prospective s2k driver. Welcome, Frank. Behave yourself you hear? The s2k is a great car. I sure wish I had it when I was younger, but I don't think I would have appreciated it as much as I do now.

Hey frank, i am 16 years old, and i remember the biggest milestone of my life so far, getting my s2k, just working on it is a pleasure. Excellent car, but be careful, this machine has much potential so be smart! But still enjoy the car for what it is. Oh and have fun paying off a 4 year loan. i work 30+ hours at a car shop to pay for my payments and insurance and my mods and snow tires, which are a must by the way if you will be driving in the winter, but it is worth it cars are my life. Good luck finding your "S" and welcome!

I think you'll find that cars are lots of people's lives around here, even the old guys like me.

Welcome aboard.

Just for the record, I'll post my warnings to you young drivers on a few subjects:

1. Even if you have the means to buy the car, your insurance is going to be hell. Make sure you can swing it first.

2. Also, in some states, you'll have an "excise" tax to pay, which is basically an annual usage tax that's based on the value of the car. With a new car, this can be bad news.

3. If you're buying new, beware the "sharpie" salesperson at the dealer who thinks you're an easy target and will try to rook you. You might want to consider bringing someone experienced in buying cars (or just getting a deal through the internet sales manager).

4. Pay attention to what folks are saying around the s2ki forums. There's a lot of wisdom to be found about how to care for your car and how to drive it.

5. Along that last thought... Please, please, please don't push the car hard for a while when you get it. Driving a RWD, high-powered car is hard enough for experienced drivers -- you will hate yourself if you hurt your new car because of losing control.

6. Stay young. It sucks getting old.

hey guys,

thanks for the warm welcome

Chase: I'll do my best to get some pics of my ride

Car guy: Thanks for the info, cars are also my life well along with baseball

Chazmo: I'll keep everything you said in mind

I just have a couple questions:

How much do you guys pay for insurance?

Are their any good car shops for the S in MA (preferably in or around Boston)?

Finally, are their any driving schools I should attend? (i.e. skip barber, etc.)

Thanks

Frank

Frank,

I'll let others comment on insurance rates; mine will have no bearing on what you'll need to pay. However, as a new driver, I would expect well north of $2K/year -- probably closer to 3. If your parent(s) are in the US and are willing, you might do better on their policy...

There are some good places around MA to get your car serviced. The best place to get responses to that is in the New England forum. Click on the forums link at the top of the page, and look for the regional communities -- you'll see it. If you post there, I'll make some recommendations for you (I'm near Worcester)...

Skip Barber is highly spoken of around the board. There's a question you might want to post in the S2000 Talk forum (or search for other threads there that have discussed it). I also highly recommend some auto-X (autocross) or track exposure to folks since it's about as much fun as you can have in the car and you learn a ton.

Best wishes.

Thanks Chazmo,

I believe that i will be on my parents insurance plan

But I'm not quite sure if I want to race my S no offense to anyone, but i do intend on trying to attend a driving school and I wouldn't mind going to a couple of the s2ki meets

Thanks,

Frank

p.s. I live around the Middlesex area

That's it, Frank. Be smart!

As for the insurance, please chat with your folks before you do this. The burden, if you have to do this yourself, might not be the right thing for you at this point in your life. Just thinking out loud...
