Hey guys - soon to be owner
Hey guys,
My name is Jason. I have been trying to buy an s2000 for over a year now, but just could never find the right one.
Finally, a really good friend of mine's friend is selling his 04 silverstone s2000 with 58k. He is selling the car to me for 14,000. Its in beautiful condition with no performance mods done. He has buddy club coil overs and power coated the wheels black - nothing crazy.
Anyways, the guy still owes 17 on the car, but as I said before he is selling to me for 14k. He is going to pay the difference on the car so that we can get the title from the bank.
I have never bought a car private party before, and I am a little skeptical on the process. Basically I will have to fork over my 14,000 cash and trust that the guy will meet me at the tag agency for the title transfer? Im just not 100% positive on how all this works?

Hi, just show up with him...don't put the money up until you're at the bank to pay off the loan. Also, depending on the state it might take a little while to get the car in your name after a lien. I've also been trying to get another S2000 for a while...I had one and sold it. She's like the girl that got away
Good luck

So far right now I am at the point where I have written a bill of sale to take to the back with me to get notarized before the sale. I am under the impression that once the loan has been paid and funds verified, the bank will turn the title over to the the person who is selling me the car. Then I'll just take the bill of sale, the title, and the insurance card, which I have just finalized with progressive ($1000 full coverage every 6 months not too shabby for 24 years old), to the tag agency and get the car registered in my name.
Another question. If I JUST renewed my tag (feb 2010), do i have to pay to have it registered again in my name? or could I just transfer the tag from my old car?
thanks
Just make sure you get a receipt
Having one notarized by the bank isn't a bad idea. And you should be more than able to go with your friend to get the title. If I were you, I would be there every step of the way too.
