Default Hi I'm very interested in a S2K

I'm going to purchase a car next month and I was looking at purchasing a Honda S2000 I found a dealer selling one in my area. http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/2071692?ad_cid=3
Could I get some advice on what to look for when I go test drive it.

Good God... 1 owner '02 AP1 with 19k miles???

Buy it

Love it till the day you die...

Leave it in your will to me

All kidding aside, it's overpriced, so offer less, But I couldn't let that car go.
Drive it definitely. The AP1's are more "raw" than the AP2's.

The car is the darkest shade of silver I've yet seen.

I'd say the car is grossly overpriced as I paid about $20,000 for my '06 (38K miles) last summer here in Ohio at a big Honda dealer in Columbus had two of them. I'd expect to pay about $14K or so for this car, maybe less.

Other than price (and color) check the roof and tires. 15 year old tires need to be replaced. I forget when the plastic rear window changed to glass. The plastic version was horrible even when new. Fluids are all suspect to include hydraulics and coolant which are on a 3 or so year maintenance schedule and I doubt a Nissan dealer has prepped the car to OEM standards. I figure the car will cost you well over $20K if it needs tires and to update the maintenance. You can do better.

So...I bought my car a few months ago. Before I bought it, I went to Honda and asked them to give me a quote on changing all the fluids. They quoted me $615 for Oil, Diff, Tranny, Brake, Coolant, and clutch. I went and bought all the fluids myself, AND ALL the tools required to do each job including oil filter wrench, 140 piece mechanics set, rubber mallet, 2 torque wrenches, the weird stuff (sockets/wrenches that didn't come in the mechanics set) jack stands, floor jack.... Literally EVERYTING and still cost me about $150 less than Honda wanted to charge. Tires will cost you 1k'ish.

This forum has a plethora of information for the DIY'er. I've never changed oil on any vehicle in my life, but this forum gave me the confidence to do it all. If you want to, or already can do the work yourself, then it won't cost as much as Chuck is saying.

Negotiate a lower price for the car (15k range) then buy that baby... The color does concern me too because it looks like a dirty black or something. I'm thinking poor lighting is the reason because silverstone is already a dark color, and if you look at some of the interior pics, parts look yellow which tells me they are taking the pictures under shitty lighting.

KBB says trade in value for that car is between 12,900 and 15,200 so, the dealership paid somewhere in that range... I'd expect the price can be negotiated down from $19k to 16 - 16,500 if you're a decent negotiator Good Luck! I wouldn't wait too long though because S2000's don't last long on a car lot.

Nice car! I doubt you will be able to bring the price down more than $1 K - $1.5 K in the best case scenario but it is worth a try. The used prices of these cars are going up for reasons already discussed on this forum. If you are handy with cars you could do your own maintenance for much much less. Replacing the fluids is very easy. New good tires will cost you about $1 K. As already was mentioned, depending on your area, this cars do not last long on the market.
