Howdy from NC
I'm not an owner - yet.
I've had a few of the typicals- 240sx's, wrx, b15spec-v, msm but I am a practical man and with my last toy being the MSM, I was honestly disappointed in the platform. As an observer/helper, I've worked on many RX7 fc/fd cars with the assistance of folks who learned from Mazda master mechs in Japan while stationed there. I can swap a rx7 engine and trans in about 6 hours turnkey. I learned from the masters. I can appreciate the design. I learned apex seals arent worth shit. The one true car I miss is the wrx, which had a lot of my sweat and tears and hours of research poured into it. Nothing like a 277wtq wagon I can throw a washing machine into and close the hatch. I felt I understood it. I felt I betrayed myself selling it. After selling the MSM, I swore that convertibles were not for me but then a week ago, I test drove a 02 ap1 with a mere 39k on the clock. I'm a big guy. I bought narrow shoes, and would empty my pockets to drive the msm.....I didnt have to worry about any of that in the s2k. I could wear a hat with the top on. My dr Martins didnt seems to have a problem between the pedals. I have the old Option Auto Integra Type R video from Japan some 10 years old that has the bonus footage at the end showing Shegeru and the s2k run through the paces on the Nurburgring. I didnt understand it then. I now see what I was missing. I always found these cars being driven by folks that were a bit above my station. Now that time and cost has leveled out for me, I want one.
Thats what brought me here. And I know the forums are the best place to learn as much as I can.
I understand motors, and I turn my own wrenches. I can seriously appreciate the engineering instilled into its design. My DD is a 4 banger taco, and its killing my soul every day.
I need to save my soul before its lost forever.

Well thats what I get, drunk car nostalgia with too much 120 proof knob. Delicious and depressing.
Considering the motors are high comporession, would you balk at a 05ap2 with 120k on the clock? It was purchased from a dealership, comes with an extended warranty that lasts for the next 15k miles (which is probably rubbish). Should I be looking for a compression test? It doesnt appear to have been an abused car but just something for a DD until she got her new whip. The ask is 15k, but I'm thinking 12.5-13 would be more appropriate. Is that still too high?

Well I just bought a ap1 with a lot of love poured into it. A beautiful car, considering I have had ugly subarus and owned a MSM for a year. Now I want to pour some ap2 retainers, do a valve clearance adjustment, and drive it like I stole it. Anyone got a helms manual handy? I do turn a wrench and do all my own work, so I am eager to dig into this car and make it as bulletproof as I can manage.
